 Subject: 4.7 CC vs. 4.0 Ranger Ext. Cab

My friend has the 4.0L Ranger with extended cab
and a manual and I have the 4.7 CC Dak w/ an
automatic. He swears that he can beat
me...especially off the line. Anyways, we are
going to throw down some money, so any help would
be good. And by the way, both of our trucks are
completely stock.

Rangers are pretty slow, but the manual tranny and 4.0 will definitely help him. If you're both stock I don't think you have much to worry about.

HA i had a freind do that he had a straight 6 ford f150 ('89 modle that ran great hes wrecked it since we raced though) w. a manual 5 speed. i have a '97 3.9l auto. i smoked him. he beat me off the line by about have a truck lenght and i was about 3 lenghts ahead when we finished. he tried 3 times never got me

I like the Rangers, much more of a competition than the S10s IMO too.

Now, this isn't really a fair fight, but I ran against one of the guys at work, his is a stock 2wd 4.0 auto extra cab with no options except a/c (est 3400lb) against my 4900lb 4.7 QC 4x4. He did get me off the line, but I just reeled him in and at the end, I was 2 lengths ahead. You should have no probs

I have a 4.7 quad 5 speed and my roommate has a 4.0 ranger ext cab.
his truck is fairly torquey but no where near as fast.
I would say off the line he may get you but just rap out first gear and slam it hard into second...
oh you said auto, just push the pedal.

I have a 4x4 cc 5.2L 5 speed I had about 300+ proubly more pounds in the bed and 5 people in the cab and beet a freind w/ a shortbed 4x4 ranger w/ a 3.0L 5 speed w/ 2 poeple in it. The 4.0L is a little better but a 4.7 is going to demolish a 4.0L ranger are they both 2wd or 4wd?

traction because i have the tonneau cover on the
back so the extra weight will give me more
traction. i think im going to win. he is all
serious about the race saying he's going to
downshift b/c he says that gives him more speed (
i dont know ??) but i know that is hard on your
engine, or so ive been told. anyways i think the
race is on tommorrow or wed. ill let you guys know
how i do...
