Subject: My New DAK QC Is Sitting In The Dealer's Lot IP: Logged
Message: Its a Sunday, my new 2001 (ordered 3/19) AWD/4.7/Auto/3.92/LSD/T&H/Sport+ must have arrived last night or early this morning and is sitting in my dealer's parking lot.
Some observations and questions:
All options are there
-no plastic wrapping anywhere on the body
The right side of the bed is out of alighnment, it and the rear tire stick out about a 1/2 inch, is this something they can fix before I pick up and sign the papers, and if so, how do they fix it.
No stinking badges to be seen anywhere
A few minor scratches and paint bubbles, will point this out before they prep.
Right side rear fender flare has a chip in it, should I have them fix it or replace it?
With the doors locked, there wasn't much else I could do, I plan on going down there tomorrow for a pre-prep inspection to supplement my post-prep inspection, I want them to get it right the first time!
One last quesiton, I'm gonna give them all of Monday 4/30 to inspect and prep, pick up Tuesday 5/1, the Sales Manager asked if he could put 4/30 on the paper so it lools like a April delivery...does anyone know what DC is doing with the rebates of $2000 on 5/1, and other than losing one day off of the warranty, what other problems would there be picking up on 5/1 with the papers dated 4/30 (what should I bargin for with the dealer to sign the papers as 4/30?)
Even with all the dust and dirt, and not being prepped, that bright flame red truck is looking good?

Message: I'd be very concerned about this alignment detail. I'm no expert, but if the truck bed is out of alignment it sounds like it could be something serious happened with the truck during loading or unloading.
In regards to delivery date, you need to physically take delivery (or have paperwork saying you physically took delivery) by 4/30 to get the $2000 rebate.
You might want to ask them if you can run it by a body shop before taking delivery, based on the bed being out of alignment. Might be worth the fee they'd charge to inspect it to make sure the chassis is ok.

Message: The alingnment issue has been brought up on another thread. It seems from what I have heard that they are all like that. (the wheel sticks out more on one side) I think it's stupid and will do a walk around as soon as my 2001 Dak comes in, about 3 weeks.
I am not sure weather or not to purchase the V8 emblems however. All other stickers will be removed the day she comes in.

Message: A update:
I just did a walk around the truck with the Service Mgr, pointed out the bed alignment, he said thats nothing and told me about another DAK that when the driver looked out his door mirror, all he saw was the bed sticking out...there are 3 slotted and 1 non-slotted holes in the frame where the bed bolts onto, they're gonna loosen them up and re-align.
Apprears the factory also missed undercoating the rear wheel wells or at least the Service Mgr said it was something he wanted to do, during the prep.
Badges, no badges, I may get a pair of the V8s and stick them on.
The minor paint imperfections will be taken care of during prep.
One item to note, I was discussing mods with him, he said to wait till 8-9k miles before putting in synthetic oil, while the engine is considered broken in at 500 miles, putting synthetic oil in at that point would further speed up the break in, something he said you don't want to do, and to use 10w-30 not 5w-30 which he believes the owners manual has removed as a recommended oil.
He showed me a new DAK one of the dealers drives and pulled out the dip-stick to show me metal filings glinting in the sun, said he did this so when I went to check my oil at home, I wouldn't freak, a normal process of engine break-in. I should have asked him about the gunk problem....

Message: Another update:
I was suppose to pick up my new DAK QC today but the Service Mgr decided to order two new (already paint matched) fender flares instead of touching up the chips...so now I scheduled to pick up tomorrow at 3pm (may find the rebate went up, more money in my pocket, but I doubt it), hope the paint matches the factory paint job!
May try to get a in-house price on the missing V8 badges (not one DAK on the lot has them)...its a 2000 year part order, none in the system for 2001, $14 a piece, anyone know where to get a better price like $14 a pair?
Thanks.

Message: I picked up a pair of V8 emblems here in NY for $9.97 a piece. The dealer told me the list price was 12 something but he gave me 20% off for cash. The total was under 20 bucks with tax. I felt that was cheap enough. I just had to cut off the 2 plastic pins from that back and then they just peel and stick.

Message: Thanks for the info Bill.
You wouldn't be in Westchester County would you?
The sales mgr said he would hook me up with the parts mgr tomorrow re: getting a in-house price for the badges, perhaps I'll ask what that price is, then offer cash to see it they'll go even lower.
The Sales Mgr did ask if he could put 4/30 on the paper work for the truck to show up as a April order/delivery, since I now know the rebate has remained the same and won't go up starting 5/1, perhaps I'll do the 4/30 date in exchange for the badges and first oil change with wash...I'll help them if they help me! (actually these guys are good, would recommend them in a heartbeat!)

Message: No, not Westchester County, Nassau County. If they are gonna hook you up they will give them to you pretty cheap. If you are picking up the truck I would try to get them to give them to you for free. Complain about the lack of insulation , badges, and console light and then act satisfied if they throw in the badges. For 20 bucks it's the least they could do.
