Subject: Tar/Paint? Removal IP: Logged
Message: Hello All,
I have a question? I drove through, what I thought was silver paint, a few nights ago and I need your help in removing it. Its all over the inside of my wheel wells and along the lower side of my truck. As I looked at it closer, I don't think its paint. It looks like the silver stuff they use to coat roofs (AlumnaCoat I think its called?). I tried bug and tar remover and WD 40 but it didn't work. Any suggestions? Obvoiusly, I don't want something that will take the paint off my truck along with this stuff. Thanks for any help.

Message: Stop in at the local body shop, they'd probably know what would work.

Message: Get some 3M Imperial Hand Glaze(Or similar polishing compound) and rub it in with a terry cloth. If this takes it off, just wax when done. If not, it'll have to be buffed off.

Message: laquer thinner will remove it. youll have to rewax the area cause it takes the existing wax off also. I use it on my vehicles to remove small balck smudges or shopping cart smudges
It hasnt harmed my paint

Message: Whatever you use, try a small inconspicuous place first to determine if it will do any damage. I have worked in many body shops, and all paint reacts differently with chemicals. Lacquer thinner would be last resort, and if you do use it, don't soak the paint with it...it will lift it in time. Gas would the my first choice, although it;s not recommeneded because it so flammable. If the paint spots are water base (latex) you're in for alot of work ( a fingernail job). Ask a pro in your area, other cars might have had the same problem.

Message: Hey..If its latex paint (water base), take a cloth and put some regular vegetable oil on the cloth and wipe it off. Works like a champ if its latex. I did this on my buds black eclipse when he hit a can of white latex paint that fell off a truck in front of him. Came right off.
