I took my truck in for ball joint replacment of upper and lower. 16k miles. I need to know every aspect of warrenty information that would either void replacment of ball joints, or what would ensure replacment. Also, why do these ball joints fail in such small amount of milage. Any help and facts would be greatly appreciated. I feel the dealer is going to reject my warrenty, I will contact a lawyer, but without facts, I can't go anywhere. Please help me fellas! And i need it by tonight! truck is being looked at tomorrow morning. Thanks.

Why do you feel that the dealer will reject your warranty?

they said since I have directional tires, this usually causes ball joints to go bad. Enough said?

Fark that. I took my truck in today for the same thing and my dealer (Northampton, MA) had no problem covering it under warranty and I have only ~7200 miles on my truck. The guy at the dealer said this is very common, though uncommon for it to happen so early, in my case only 7200 miles. He said, and I quote, "We usually see this happen around 15,000 miles." There you go.

Does the fact that directional tires don't cause ball joints to go bad make any difference?

Sounds to me like the tire manufacturer would like to get a hold of this claim. I'm sure the tire company has a nice legal department that would salivate at the chance to bite into their a$$e$.

If they do deny your warranty claim, make sure you get them to put "directional tires caused ball joint failure" in writing. Then stick it to them! Simply tell them you need them to put it in writing because the tire manufacturer wants to forward it to their legal department. I'm sure you'll see that dealership change their tune with a quickness.

Once you're through with them I would suggest you find a new dealer.

Tires with tread that has to be facing a certain direction (i.e. you can't just slap the tire on the rim because the tread pattern has to be facing forward or backward).

Notice the tread-design? Directional tires work with the tread facing one way but not the other.

Are these ball joint failures on 2wd or 4wd trucks or both? It's hard to believe directional tread could cause this problem.

bro i hope you told the buy to bite you. Thats liek saying adding a stereo makes the car use more oil. Tires have antohing to do with ball joint wear ( given stock sized not some huge tires) There is no way directional tires caused ball joint wear. What causes ball joint wear is the crappy ball joints Dodge uses. Ive had no problems with mine and I have a 2000 with 45 000 miles on it. Dont let them get away with it. Anyway youre under warranty and they ahve to prove that the tires caused it. i can see if you had a lift and 35 inch tires ok i may be willing to buy it then but stock ride and jsut some street tires wont cause ball joints to break.
Tell the guy to fix your truck. if its under warranty i dont see what the problem is. its not liek the repair comes off his paycheck

It's a dealer in dallas,tx. I will know in a few hours what my wallet is going to do. I sure as hell will NOT get anything done at the dealer if it will cost money. I can replace these biatches myself with spending 100 bucks. Screw off dealer.

I just had my truck in for the drivers side upper balljoint. I got 31000 miles on mine. They told me tht there is a problem with the ball joints on the 2000-2003 dakotas and that they are replacing them all. There is not a recall on them but if you come in they replace them he said that they had a TSB out on them. I only had one go bad but they replaced both. When i talked to my parts guy he said that there was several thousand of them on backorder. He told me that DC replaced all the ones on the line first and sent them all back to be redesigned to fix the problem. and BTW I have directional tires too. The problem is from the company that made the ball joints and DC knows that there is a problem. Give me the number of the dealer I will call them for ya.

Symptoms include a popping noise distinctly coming from your suspension (in my case, and most others, the passanger side). You'll hear this popping noise when turning. I most often hear it when I'm making a tight turn, like in a parking lot for instance. I also hear it going over speedbumps sometimes.

I printed out every useful article I could find on this site about ball joints just incase I needed some ammo to fire back. Good news, they didn't question anything about how or why they might of gone bad. I received a call stating that the parts were in dallas and I could pick my truck up saturday at 12:30! Whaaa whooo! I was so worried I was going to have to try harder then I did to get what I wanted. As for the dealer, crap I forgot the name, it is right off of 75, as your heading south it's on the right side, and it's in richardson. I don't remember;\ Sorry. I will have to pay for the aligment how ever, a 100 bucks is kind of harsh I think.might haggle with them about that but we'll see, I am just happy to not be paying 1500 bucks to fix to joints that didn't even last 12k miles.Case closed, Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback.
