Hi All,
Am looking for used Dakota extended cab probably 95 or older due to cost.
Any suggestions for a good year, engine size, and transmission (auto or 5 speed) to look for or stay away from?

Stay away from sixers, go for the V8.
Stick vs. auto is up to you, you'll pay less for a stick, but find more autos.
The fewer miles the better, there weren't any huge changes 91-96. And remember, run the Carfax before you buy anything!

93 is the best year. You get bigger exhaust manifold collector size, bigger exhaust overall, and a return fuel system. And it's the second year of Magnum motors so they've had a chance to work a few kinks out. If you want a stick, that was only available with a V8 in '94 and up.

I'll agree 93 is probably the best dakota year. 92s and 93s did have bigger manifolds and were rated at ~10 more horse that 94+ 5.2/3.9s. But in 93 you probably will have less problems with the tranny. Us 92 owners are TOO familar with our local trans shops.

I was in the same situation as you last year. I am in college so don't have alot of money plus I wanted to pay cash. I wanted a 5 speed ex cab. I was talked out of buying an 8 (which I now wish I had)I ended up buying a 95 V6 auto ex-cab.If I could do it again I would have gotten an 8 with a 5 speed

2001 all the way, 4.7. 5spd, LSD, TT etc.
I:m sure the 93's were good also.
Was it in 96 they went to OBDII?
