You guessed it.
Gen I = 87-93
Gen II = 94-96
Gen III = 97-present
96 was an odd year as the truck kept the look of the Gen II, but had the new engine controler and other parts from the Gen III. Kind of a test bed for the new power train.

There I go getting the Pre Magnum years mixed in there too. Before 94 the engines were pre magnum. Thanks for the correction.

before 92 the engines were pre mag, the 92&93 magnums were even more powerful than the 94+ ones.
