Subject: MTX Thunderform/etc installation IP: Logged
Message: Today, I finally installed my new stereo gear in my 2001 Club Cab. I started with the Infinity AM/FM/CD/cassette system. I've now brought it to life with :
MTX Thunderform (2 10")
Infinity 5-channel amp (50w x 4 + 200w x 1)
Boss graphic EQ w/ sub controls
Infinity Kappa 6 1/2" rear speakers
THE BAD NEWS :
This truck is a pain in the ass to do anything to. It seems that DC has found a way to engineer the MAXIMUM amount of hassle in any possible modification. This installation took WAY longer than it should have, but the king-sized effort resulted in...
THE GOOD NEWS :
This system now f__king ROCKS!!! I would (and will) recommend the MTX Thunderform to ANYONE with a Club Cab. This has got to be the single-most important modification that you can do to your sound system. It fits beautifully, you lose NO space, it's totally hidden, and it WILL take your stereo into another realm!
The rear Infinity's are a 1,000% improvement over what DC gave me, but (strangely enough), the front factory speakers (seperate tweeters) are suprizingly full of gusto.
I'm still so flabbergasted with the way this system sounds that I'm finding it difficult to type...

Message: I had problems with my thunderforms fitting correctly in the rear. The seats now sit at a slight angle with them adjusted all the way up. Did you have any problems with yours? Maybee because mine is a 2000.

Message: Here's my assessment :
The seats sit at that angle for several reasons.
First, the amount of internal air space needed for the speakers to acheive peak performance might not be possible at the factory box dimensions, therefore, the box needs to be just a little taller that stock.
Second, the added height also allows the subs to breathe (notice the open cutout space in the front of the speakers) instead of just firing directly into the seat cushions.
Lastly, for those who actually allow people to sit in the back of their truck, the extra height will allow for the eventual sagging of the seat cushions without resulting in blunt force trauma to the speakers (rendering them largely useless).
My opinion? This is a SMALL price to pay for such astounding performance. Besides.... unless you're looking at the MTX and a stock seat side-by-side, I doubt that you'd ever know the difference.
