Subject: Slow amp build-up
IP: Logged

Message:
2000 4.7 auto, 136 amp alternator, 52k. My amps are slow to reach 14-15 when I start the engine. It takes 10 to 20 seconds. I didn't drive it for a couple of months, lost the green dot in the battery, but after driving it for a week, the dot came back. Now, a couple of months later, the slow amp build up has appeared. I suspect the battery (original) as the dot isn't as bright as before, but I thought I'd throw this out and see what turns up. FWIW If I stress it when I first start it, (turn on the lights, radio, fog lamps and shift it into drive fast, the transmission will drop out of drive like if you don't hit drive exactly) although the engine runs rough until the amps power up. Don't know if it's the engine or an electrical system causing the drop. Though I'm sure if the electrical system is up to par, the engine wouldn't run rough.
