Subject: How did you mount your Black Magic 150? IP: Logged
Message: It seems I would need a bit of cutting of the lower fan shroud and I am not totally sure if it'll clear the top fan shroud. Is this how I should be mounting my 150, or is there some trick to it?
Truck info's in my sig, thanks.

Message: I guess the simple answer is: I didn't!
Here in hot, humid, Houston TX. the stocker electric fan never had a problem, even after I removed the belt clutch/fan. I do have a 180t-stat though.
Sorry to hear you conditions are worse than those here, and you feel the need to add this fan.

Message: No, the stock fan was destroyed violently. I decided to replace it with a better fan if I was replacing it. I guess I'll find a way.

Message: But when you reinstalled the shroud (upper), didn't it interfere with the mounting plates?
I guess I'll give it another shot in another half hour.

Message: xplikt,
Are you trying to re-install the stock shroud over the 150? The black magic 150 has a shroud built into the unit, so the stock shroud is not needed. Besides, as you have experienced, the stock shroud does not fit over the 150 unit.
Center the 150 unit and you should have no problems cooling the truck!

Message: DeepDak is correct. Do not worry about the stock shroud you no longer need it.

Message: But the upper stock shroud has my wiper fluid reservoir. Didn't this get in your way? Or did you just not use it?

Message: Mine wasn't mounted there. That is something you need to have. I didn't know something was mounted to it. Sorry and good mounting it.

Message: With a little ingenuity I think I found a way to mount this beast. It just barely clears the upper tie bar braces though.
Time for a trip to Home Depot and NAPA.

Message: xplikt,
The '99s and older have the fluid container mounted in the passenger side corner of the engine bay. The '00 and newer have it mounted over the radiator.
Hmmm...I wonder if you can purchase a '99 container and mount it in the previous corner? But then, you'd have to re-route the hoses and connectors.
Let me know how you get around this problem.

Message: xplikt, how did you end up with your mounting problem? I have the same setup with my '00 3.9 (radiator overflow and wiper res in fan shroud). Anyone else solve this without a jerryrig nightmare? Anyone tried changing to a pusher?

Message: I got a black magic 150 and had to return it. The GenII's have 1/2 inch too little room in front of the engine. As for the bottle, I got one from a junk yard. I yanked it from some jap car and mounted it right on the metal flange on the side of the radiator. Once I noticed the fan didnt fit I had to yank the junk yard setup and put the shroud back on with the clutch fan. I had to return the fan to Jeg's and eat the shipping both ways. $17.20 to ship it back to them.
