Message: Yup, plenty of patience, and read the instructions that come with gauges. takes about 2 Hrs.. but also be carefull doing it, if you are not sure about doing this, have a speedo shop do it..

Message: I have a 99 dakota, the instructions that came with mine sucked, but in a nutshell heres how I did mine, removed the front bezel it snaped off, unscrewed the instrument cluster and pulled it out, then after removing the front clear plastic the needles were exposed, I had to gently pull the needles off and put the white laminate over the instruments, after doing this I gently placed the needles back on but not all the way and reinstalled it back in the dash, once in I turned on the ignition and placed the needles where they should be and test drove truck adjusting as necessary, then put it all back together, also a Haynes manual is invaluble for additional info

Message: I haven't installed new gauges yet but I do know how to remove the bezel. I recently installed an MP3 player in my 2001 Dakota. First you have to remove the dashboard face. There are 2 screws right above the bezel as you look through your steering wheel. Once those are out, remove the small door for the fuse box (visible with drivers side door open). It just pops right off.
I also removed the lower panel where the parking brake release is. There are 3 phillips head screws that hold that on. It sounds like alot of work but it really isn't.
The dashboard face is only held on with spring clips. The only screws holding it on are the 2 that I mentioned above the bezel. With the glovebox open you should be able to grab the bottom right corner of the dashboard face. Give it a tug and it should come off. There are about 8 of these clips holding it all on so just work your way around.
Now that it's all disconnected there's only one small problem....the steering wheel is in the way(unless you have tilt steering). Luckily though the top of the bezel housing (where the two screw holes are) will fit on top of the steering wheel with just enough room to clear. You'll see what I mean when you get there.
With the dash face removed you can clearly see the clear plastic bezel with nothing but a 3 or 4 phillips head screws holding it in place.
Like I said, it sounds like alot of work but it isn't at all. Have fun!
