Message: I'm about to do a massive fluid change and possible flushing? Just for the heck of it. My '00 4.7L 5spd 2wd LSD has 41,000 miles on it. I'm currently running valvoline synthetic 5w-30. I live in South Florida. So heat is a factor in what fluids I choose.
A list of what fluids/viscosities whatever I will need would be helpful. I don't have time to order online so all fluids will be from the local parts store.
Any help would be really appreciated.

I think ordering online takes much less time, but it does take longer to get your stuff.
I say put Redline in the diff, tranny, and power steering. Your coolant shouldn't be too bad, but you can give it a look.

Message: http://www.myoilshop.com has the best prices, service, and shipping you can find for Redline oils. Summit also has pretty good prices on Redline.
You only need 1 qrt. bottle for the power steering. The others I don't remember the amounts. If you have a service manual, it'll be in there. It's something like 2 bottles for one and 3 for the other.

Message: Thanks for the help...I've got one more question just for you xplikt. What size u-bolts did you buy to make that rear leaf drop work with the active suspension? Where did you get them and do you have a part number? I figured just stainless u-bolts from Lowes or Home Depot.

Message: I wish I had a Lowes, but the U-bolts from Home Depot don't fit -- from the what I looked at. I just bought some from NAPA. It's funny because they only had one box (two u-bolts). So I ask him if they have that same size, but longer. Ahh, what a surprise, they do. So I cut two of them down and there was enough thread for it to work.
At Home Depot, I did buy some stainless washers and lock washers to go on the u-bolts though. You can see them here:

I am a big fan of lock washers and nylocks *shrug*.
Usually replacement u-bolts have a lot of thread and you need to cut them down. They do that on purpose.

To answer your concerns about viscosity:
-----
VISCOSITY..in the general term is defined as " a fluids resistance to flow". it's a measure of the internal friction of the fluid or the resistance to the movement of one layer of molecules relative to an adjacent layer.
THE LOWER (SMALLER or FIRST #, as in "10w-_) NUMBER.. is the Cold Cranking measurement, made at low temperatures, using a concentric cylinder viscometer to predict the oils cranking resistance in an engine during cold starting.
The measuring devices, or viscosmeters, most often used are in the form of close-fitting concentric cylinders. The fluid being evaluated is placed between the cylinder walls, the outer cylinder is held stationary and the inner cylinder is rotated. The speed of rotation is measured for a given force to calculate the viscosity, most commonly reported in cp or centipoise units. Also known as Absolute Viscosity.
THE HIGHER (BIGGER or SECOND #, as in "-30") NUMBER...is commonly measured in capilary tubes, in which the time for a fixed volume of fluid to flow through the tube under gravity at operating temp (100c)is measured and reported as cSt or centistokes. This is used most commonly to report the normal operating viscosity of motor oils or the higher number.
----------
" 0W- " is a viscosity GRADE, not a viscosity MEASUREMENT.
When testing for cold fluidity, the temperature is lowered approximately 5 degrees centigrade between each test.
The Cold Crank Simulator Apparent Viscosity is tested at:
-20 C for 10W-
-25 C fpr 5W-
-30 C for 0W-
It is my understanding that the oil has to be labelled at the lowest temperature it meets the specifications.
It may not be long before someone comes out with a " -5W-30 " which would correspond with -35 C.

Message: xplikt,
Was there a bet that I was unaware of? LOL !!!
RE: the question " So what about viscosities? For say the tranny and differential? " I offer the following:
----------------------
Amsoil Series 2000 75w-90 is excellent for use in passenger cars and trucks requiring a GL-5 gear lube, including those with limited slip differentials.
Helpful Differential Recommendations:
-Flush (drain) as much of the old fluid out.
-Differential fluid capacity depends on ring gear and axle housing size.
-Do not over/under fill differential. This could mean a capacity difference of a quart or more and may cause overheating problems. (See the owner’s manual for proper fill level)
----------
AMSOIL gear oils are formulated with friction modifiers for limited slip differential applications. There is no need to add limited slip or additional additives. If you choose a different manufacturer than Amsoil ... fine by me, just offering my services.
----------
-After changing the differential fluid, drive the vehicle in 7 or 8 figure eight turns, so the new lubricant can work its way into the axle assembly.
----------
Synthetics provide the long-lasting protection, fuel efficiency and dependability needed for top performance, even extreme-pressure conditions. Stays fluid in cold temperatures for easy cold-weather shifting.
----------
Yes xplikt, I am always lurking .... and happy to help anytime.

Message: If I were you I would contact Valvline and ask them if their base stock is Hydrocraked. If it is you do not want it. Hydrocracked is not a true synthetic but legally they can call anything synthetic now! You also want to make sure that it also meets ATF+4 requirments at the minium. You also do not want to put anyfluid in your tranny tranny designed to swell seals. The Maxlife brand is designed with extra seal swelling chemicals and this is expressly forbiden by DaimlerChysler!!!

Message: I cannot give you the specifics on any of the ATF's in question, but I have used the Amsoil Universal Synthetic ATF in several transmissions. Several people question the use of a Universal ATF fluid for the Chrysler unique specification ATF+4, I believe. RedLine makes one specific to type, that is one for Dexron, one for Mercon and one for Chrysler. Amsoil is Universal and that is why it is questioned, given the different manufacturer specs. For the Record, I have used Amsoil Universal Synthetic ATF in a Toyota, Isuzu, Chevy, Ford, Buick, and Dodge with no problems. I think all my transmissions love me for using Amsoil. One ATF Fluid is all I need for all my vehicles, and that fluid is Amsoil Universal Synthetic ATF.
