Just changed my air filter to a new K&N filter and now I have an P0138 o2 sensor error code. Do you think this is just coincidence or could the two be related.

I"m assuming that this is a drop in right? I really don't see how that could throw that code.

Try resetting the PCM, and see if it comes back.

Good luck.

My 2000 Dak 4.7 has 52,000 miles on it and they beleive it's the downstream sensor at $112.00

I tried using some injector and cat cleaner but it did not work. Engine light came back on and the error code is P0138 (O2 sensor voltage to ground)

When you 'dropped in' the K&N did you oil it before installing? I noticed after I re-oiled my drop-in, the first time I started up some blue smoke was blown out through the exhaust. It didn't last very long and smelled way different than normal motor oil burning, I assumed that it was the excess K&N filter oil from the filter. Upon reflection, I wonder if too much of this oil can foul the o2 sensor, anyone know?

You are supposed to let the oil dry before running the engine. Lol

OK...found the problem. It turned out to be a pinched wire in the harness shorting to ground. Make sure you have the wire harness checked before you spend money on an O2 sensor.

Erratic Speedometer
IP: Logged

Message:
I have 4x4 2000 Quad, 4.7 and the speedometer is all over the scale. Sometimes traveling in the highway the needle indicator goes back and forth from 0-120 and back to some speed close to is supposed to be. I did the cluster diagnostic as poste here, and no errors on cluster. On the other hand doing the 3 times ignition On/OFF I get the P1687 - Cluster bus error. Is this caused by a faulty speed sensor, and can someone tell me where is this located?.
