Subject: Vaccume leak?
IP: Logged

Message:
A while back I mention something about my motor sounding like it was working extra hard and a lack of power and you guys suggested it could be the cat. Is it possible there may be a vacume leak somewhere? If so, where should I be checking and how do I fix it?

there is no way you can have a vacuum leak in your cat. The cat is in your exhaust system and when the engine is running there is at least a little bit of PRESSURE in it. If your engine is acting like you say at speeds up to around 25-35 then quits, it is more then likely your fan doing its thing to cool your engine. it is normal. The only way to stop it is to convert to an electric fan. I did that on a '79 turbo 2.3 Mustang and fried the valve stem seals so I really don't recommend going to an electric fan but is is an alternative. But that could have been a problem with the Ford not the fan.

try a little spray oil all around the top half of the engine, if you have a leak as soon as the oil gets to where it is leaking the engine will change speed. do this with the engine running, but be extra carefull around high voltage and moving parts, I don't wanna see your obit.

I may have pin-pointed the leak. How would I go about patching a leak thats at where the manifold meets the y-pipe? Do the make donuts for that?
