I am going to drop my oil pan to check the filter and possibly changed pump, do I want to go with a 'high volume' or standard on this POS '98 with 150,798 miles on it?
any good advice would be appreciated.

Go with the cheapest since you think it's a POS. Then you can sell it and buy something you like.
