Subject: misfire 1-3-5 cyls IP: Logged
Message: Getting bad codes 3 cyl misfire. Teusk runs fine, plenty of power. She'll do 80-90 mph no problem. Replaced all usual tune up items, checked for vacuum leak, furl rail etc, # 1 cyl slightlty lower compression than the others. Won't pass inspection. Mechanic thinks it may be valve seats. Any ideas

Message: Sorry didn't specify. Cap, rotor, wires, coil, plugs all new. Truck runs too good. What can cause these codes. Also no tapping or knocking. Could it be the # 115 splice ?? she still burns the tires

Message: yea, I had a 2nd Mechanic that I always deal with. The kid is a real motorhead. After doing all the standard procedures he is convinced the problrem is internal. The truck was a fleet truck with 120,000 miles. In NYC that's alot of hours on the motor. not many highway miles. i got it for almost nothing, replaced the radiator, brakes, rotors. The first guy told me the codes would go away after he changed the coil. 500 plus miles, and they didn.t change. The truck has runs fine, no hesitation, stalling or any of that. It has balls. Don't know if i should start ripping it apart and look inside

Message: Try resetting the PCM. If it's running as smooth as you say it is then it can't be missing.
Just disconnect the positive battery terminal and turn the key to start for about 30 seconds. Then reconnect the battery. It could be leaky injectors, leaking intake manifold gasket just to name a couple.

Message: I think I know were you are going here. I did notice the running temp is way below what it should be. I really don't even get enough heat from the blower, the engine temp is probably about 160-170 the most. Forgive me but I'm from the old shool when cars had points, and we gapped them with a matchbook. The kid doing the diagnostics has a fully equipped shop. His father raced NHRA. He told me to junk it and save my money. I will definately try what you suggest, but i think he tried all that. He said he even smoked the engine for vacuum leaks, and it was good. will advise, you are a good dude

Message: My 98 3.9 has suffered with this from 180 - 232K
miles. Coil has been replaced 2x, along with
plugs, wires, crank position sensor. The ECM is
bad. When it acts up, I open the hood and beat on
the brain, and that clears it up for a while. The
misfires were so bad it blew out the catalytic
converter. I replaced the cat, got it smogged,
then cut it out and replaced it w/ flex pipe. Runs
much better. Truck to be replaced soon.

Message: After changing Sparks Plugs, Coil, Dist. Cap. Smoking the engine it was the Cam Sensor. Changed that and all the codes disappeared passed inspection and still running like new.
