my pcm turned my check engine light on and wont pass smog. a new one is $450-600. can i buy one from ajunk yard,install it and get it flashed from the dealer?

what code came up when the light went on? not very common for a PCM to fail.

this would be covered under your emissions warranty if your not out of it yet. emissions warranty is usually 8yr/80k or 100K miles.
better double check before buying one.
sometimes just a reflash can work. if the PCM is toast i'd shop for a used one with the same configuration as your truck then have the dealer flash in your VIN.

RIGHT ON i will check the dealership to see if they can do that but as far as the warrenty goes im over the milage. do you know if i can get 1 (pcm) out of another 02 dakota and use that and get it flashed/

yes, just get one from a trucl with options like yours. i think the factory alram system gives problems sometimes.
