i drive a 2000 dodge ram 1500, and when i press on the gas i hear a ticking noise that sounds something like a weedeater, which comes from the engine on the driver side. i was just wondering if anyone here might know what the cause of this noise could be.

I also have a ticking noise when I accelerate but it only happens when hard acceleration is involved when your going down the road 25mph or so and get on it, it wont do it .pretty much from a start or slow speed it sounds like from rear driver side tire area ?

I have the same problem with my 2000 Dodge Dakota 4X4 4.7 except I know what the problem is... it is my transfer case! OBTW it has less than 15,000 miles on it.
