replaced rotors on my 2000 qc 4x4 in mid 2002, at about 40,000 km ...warpage was really bad. I had complained every time the vehicle went in for oil change, starting about 6,000 km ...i was told they will 'monitor' the situation. When they finally decided it was time to fix the brakes, warranty (or that part of the warranty in particular) was expired.
Anyway, after a small ruckus was made at the dealership, they paid for rotors and i paid for labour ...fair enough for me. Brakes have started pulsing again at about 50,000km (am now at about 75k) and i will replace with good aftermarket items (brembo sounds good)
Only other gripes have been excessive suspension squeaks, loose center console ( none of the mounting screws were holding through floor pan,) detached weatherstrip on door (noticed on delivery, as well as on several other test drives,) fogged up headlamp, and really sloppy, rickety power seat mechanism. Paid CDN$37k+ for this thing, and i'm very disappointed in the quality ...even though i like the truck alot. It is unlikely i will buy another DC product.

A friend has a 99 Grand Cherokee with identical rotor problems. His solution? -he takes them in and has them replaced, whether they need it or not, every 8 months under the previous job's warranty... he is not much liked at that dealership!!

03 QC with 12,100 miles. Same old song and dance noticed pulsation at about 5K and now it has become very bad. Plan on replacing but want to make a smart choice in aftermarket. Haven't seen anyone comment on successful aftermarket rotor and pad replacement after a few thousand miles. Has anyone had long term success with a certain combination?

THANKS for all the information on warped rotors/drums!
I'm on my second Dakota, '02 R/T 4x4, and the warping has already begun. Was already planning on upgrading from OE parts (PowerSlot and Hawk pads up front) but still wondering what the best drums to go with are. Any suggestions? At this point I'm thinking of just using standard Raybestos drums and maybe shooting them with some hi-temp silver paint before install. Any help would be appreciated.

I replaced stock rotors on my 99 Grand Cherokee with the power slots a couple of years ago. One bit of advice DON'T use those brake dust cover discs (metal plates that mount to rims) they don't let rotors cool off correctly. My first set of power slots warped @ about 4,000 miles had them replaced and dust shields removed have about 15,000 on them with no problems except black rims.
I just had rotors replaced on my 04 Dak Q/C less than 11 months old had 14,000 lots of bitching and dealer agreed to replace them for $50. Detroit was useless and nasty about it.
I'm not sure what the Feds are going to do about the rotor warping there are thousands of complaints about Jeeps since 99 with no investigation.

You can throw me in the list. I owned a 95 Dodge Dakota, the brakes warped after 11,000 miles. I was also told it was my driving habits and like many others explained to them that this is the first vehicle I've ever had this happen to. I replaced the rotors with good success. In 2001 I bought another Dodge Dakota. Since the rotors were the only problem I ever had with my 95 I was comfortable with buying another one. Besides, I figured after 6 years they couldn't possibly still be building trucks with defective rotors again? - WRONG! Only this time I replaced the rotors and now the replacement ones are warping again. Add that to the defective ball joints and I think I've given Dodge their last chance. What all can I do to get the word out.

Man, how I wish I had seen these forums a few years ago. I was on the war path to get something done at that time too.

I had an '00 ext. cab 4 x 4 and had my rotors repaired 5 times. Fortuantely the dealers I worked with warranteed their work 12/12 so i never had to lay out a dime.

I will say that when the service manager sat me down in his office and told me they were going to have to stop fixing the problem for me, and that "sometimes we have to deal with what we're given" I about went through the roof. At the next hint of pulsation of my brakes, I initiated lemon law proceedings with a detailed letter to Chrysler. Sending the letter return receipt registered mail, I got a response in just 3 days!

Chrysler agreed to replace my truck, and did so with surprisingly little fuss (I didn't even have to go any farther with Lemon Law - they took care of it after I started the proceedings). We agreed to settle under the terms of the Lemon Law. I totally had to hold the dealer's hand and supply him with documentation about everything there was on lemon law, but in the end all came out well. I do recall I had to delay picking up my new truck due to disputes but I was able to resolve those by providing the dealer with all necessary info.

So then comes my shiny new '02 Dakota. I had the rotors warp twice on it before I agreed to let them try after market rotors... they settled on Stillen ventilated rotors. They tried to send me away with the old pads on the new rotors so I asked for a spec sheet on the new rotors - which indicates new pads required.

Anyhow, I'm now about 40k miles into the new rotors and I am just starting to feel pulsation. It's a HUGE improvement over the old rotors!!!

Recently though, I did just have a complete rear-end rebuild - the rear diff had some major issues. Warranty replaced everything in my rear end except wheels & brakes. Dealer said it would have cost $4,900 if not on warranty *whew*!

I think I'm ready to move on up to another vehicle... Enough of this crap. Despite the generally good service I got, based on the maintenance problems with my Dakota, my new vehicle won't be a Dodge.
