Message: I HAVE A 2001 DAKOTA WITH THE 4.7 AND I HEAR A CLICKING NOISE WHEN I START TO ACCELERATE. IT ONLY HAS ABOUT 4,000 MILES ON IT AND I HATE HEARING THE NOISE. I ALSO THINK MY CATALITIC CONVERTER IS GOING BAD, EVERY NOW AND THEN MY TRUCK SMELLS LIKE ROTTEN EGGS. DOES ANYBODY ELSE HAVE PROBEMS LIKE THIS AND WHAT SHOULD I DO.

Message: Where is the clicking noise coming from? Mine has one from the rear of the vehicle that sounds like a loose shock or spring mount. The dealer and a DC tech rep have been all through my rear end (for a different problem) and have found nothing wrong.
On the rotten eggs smell...it is always possible that you have a bad converter, but I doubt it given your low miles. That rotten eggs smell is sulphur, and the sulphur content of gas in the US is very high (as compared to Europe, for example). Don't ask me what the sulphur does, but I know that there is a relatively large amount of it in US gas. The sulphur content may be higher in your area, since gas is now formulated differently for different markets.

Message: THE NOISE IS COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK SOME WHERES. I DON'T KNOW IF ITS THE FRONT END, THE TRANSMISSION, OR WHAT. IT DOES IT RIGHT WHEN I TAKE OFF. I GIVE IT A LITTLE GAS TO TAKE OFF AND IT WILL MAKE A COUPLE CLICKING NOISES AND STOP. IT ANNOYS THE HELL OUT OF ME.

Message: I have a '00 q.c. 4.7 and mine did the same thing (among other things). The solution for me was simple: Dodge puts some kind of coating on the front brake rotors (anti-corrosion?). After a few thousand miles it starts to flake off. It's tough enough that as it flakes the loose end will start to rub against the inside of the wheel and make a ticking noise not unlike the proverbial kid with the stick running down a fence. I found this when I rotated the tires for the first time. I peeled all the loose stuff off and the noise is gone.

Message: Hey popeye, if the clicking or clunking occurs
when you hit the gas and when you hit the breaks
casuing the front end to rise and lower, it might
the stering column or intermediate shafts of the
stering column. I had this same problem and took
it in thinking it was the ball joint (later they
did change it just b/c i foind the boots ripped
open) but they found out they had to put in a new
stering column due to a bad bearing(thrust maybe).
They changed it and no more clunking!!! hope this
helps!!! oh and this was on a 4.7 L 2000 with only
about 23k miles .....ball joints recently replaced
at 25.5k miles!!!!!

Message: Might be a bad spark plug. If it fails to fire will make a clicking. Sounds like when you hit the gas the plug misses a few times.

Message: I have the clicking noise but it only happens when the vehicle is being put into gear and when torque is applied. I had the dealer replace the entire drive shaft! Worked great for about a week and now is back. I have a 4.7 as well.(QC) They said it seems to be a clearance issue or something of the drive shaft. They can't fix it so far. Getting ready for the third bout. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Message: i have a '95 3.9 v6 club cab, 125,000 miles. i hear the same things. my two cents are you are hearing the classic chrysler a/c compressor clutch (even if the a/c is off) or you are hearing the timing chain slapping around. i narrowed mine down my having some one sit in the truck while i had my head under the hood. have them put the truck in drive and accelerate just litely and the sound will come right out at you.
i thought my brand new tranny was failing already. to my relief it was the timing chain.

Message: I get a clicking noise but mine is when you turn the steering whell left or right. Dealer cannot figure it out and they say Dodge has been no help whatsoever. They have replaced ball joints and steering shaft so far, the steering shaft helped, but it seems the noise is still present, just not as bad. My truck is a 2001 Quad cab 4x4 with the 4.7 engine with 28,000 miles.

Message: Just this week, on Friday 3/9/12 I was driving down the road and heard a pop and sounded like something hit the pavement. Immediately I heard the sound of what bad CV joints sound like when they are about to go out. And I could feel vibration in the steering wheel. The faster I drove the louder the sound. Over the weekend I installed two new CV joints/axles. Not re-manufactured.
I still have the noise. In process of elimination I raised the rear and put it in drive forward and reverse. No noise. I raided the entire truck and did same thing. No noise. I drove the truck up the road and had the same noise. Sounds like bad CV joint and feel vibration in steering wheel.
Back at home I removed the short drive shaft from PTO to from gear case. Guess what, The truck was supposed to revert to 2WD but it would not move forward or reverse and ground horribly when trying to put it back in park.
I have a 2001, Club Cad, 4.7L. High mileage but really dependable vehicle. And educated suspicions out there?
