It should be at least checked to verify proper alignment.
May require adjustment although not likely..
It is more of a money grabber for shops..

If the dealer only replaces the ball joints, no.
If the upper or lower control arms are replaced, then an alignment must be done.

I bought an '03 Quad Cab two weeks ago from an independent dealer, took it a week later to my local dodge dealer and they replaced the upper ball joints and performed a front end alignment for free under the recall / service bulletin.

However, they did pop me for $351.60 for flushing out the tranny, changing filters, and servicing the rear differential.

Ouch! They charge way more than what is necessary for those items. I guess they gotta try to generate some revenue however they can...

Crieg - You didn't say if you had requested the extra service or not. So if you hadn't then you now know why so many others on this site call them the stealership. Well I had a problem under another topic, and now I have a problem that is caused by water leaking in. My carpet under the jack area is soaked and probily causing at least two different types of damage. My extended coverage is to 9/09 for the upper ball joints so I do a wheel alignment every year to check as I don't want, as others have found, that other problems are introduced after the upper joints are replaced.Good Luck.

ernie - I did request the other services so I was prepared for the "large charge". I wasn't, however, prepared for the skillet my wife threw at me when she found out what I paid.

The bad part of this is I still have the "popping" noise coming from my front end. Another member on this website suggested that it might be my brakes so I've got to check this out.
