Message: I had the upper ball joints replaced per recall. Now the dealer wants me to pay for replacing the lower ball joints. Anyone had this type of problem?

Message: I had mine done first under warranty a few years ago. Now after the Upper were replaced I am getting the same noise coming back and only 2 to 3 months later. I am thinking the lower died again. Boy did Dodge come up with a crappy design for a front suspension.

Message: Skeletor86: why did they replace the lower ball joints on your truck? What were the symptoms?
eyeshade: why does the dealer want to replace your lower ball joints? If you have to pay for it, I would be looking for a second opinion.
-just curious-

Message: I just recently had to replace both my upper and lower ball joints. My weren't covered by any kind of warranty. I just went to a local tire shop and they replaced them both for $550. Make sure to shop around though, one guy was quoting me for over $900...
Also check your tires to make sure that the insides of them aren't worn down either...that is another sign that your joints are shot.

Message: I just got 2 quotes for lower ball joints on the front. One was for $500.00 and the other was for $430.00, including the alignment. I live in California. Do you think I can find a better deal?

Message: Hey Kimmylion, that price for $430 sounds like a pretty good deal...where are you getting the quotes from (ie. tire shop, mechanic, etc.)? I live in Idaho, things are generally pretty cheap up here.

Message: Yea, I had mine replaced at a tire shop, and haven't had any problems since. I'd check to make sure that your front tires are still in good shape and haven't been wearing on the inside.

Message: 24 bucks for the lowers and 32 for the uppers. Just replaced mine in my 99 4WD Dak. It is a dewable weekend job. Jump in, save yourselves some duckies and use that extra cash on a thumpin sterio, or maybe not.
Keep'em on all 4's.

Message: just had tires put on my '98 and wanted an alignment, work was being done at NTB. I was told they couldn't do the alignment since 3 out of the 4 balls joints are bad. They quoted me $845 to replace the 3 or $920 to do all 4. Truck only has 61k miles on it, piss poor design I'd say. Shopping for lower price atm.

Message: When the lowers were going out there was a sound like a broken shock going around any corner that had any type of bump. The uppers made a similar sound, but when you pull forward from a parking spot and make a full lock turn you can feel the front end take a second to catch. The lowers did not do that on the uppers did. For Dodge to finally do the lowers they first went thru replacing the steering rack, and some other parts first, and then on the 3rd or 4th time they did the lowers. Hope that helps, sorry it is a little late.

Message: The upper and lower ball joints are not the only problem. You need to check the hub bearing assembly also. I have a 01 Qaud Cab V6 the dealership said ball joints were bad but it was the right front hub bearing had broken apart. If you ball joint have been fixed check the hub. I don't know which is the cause and which is the effect.

Message: Seems we suffer poor design. I've replaced em all 2 or 4 times over 500,000 miles. Even greasable that I grease at 5,000 miles with Amsoil grease.
Have Moog or other quality replacement joints installed. Way cheaper than Mopar.
A lifetime alignment plan from Firestone saves money over the long run.
