Message: I have been painting professionaly now for 20 yrs. Dodge has had some issues with paint over the years,as have others, but you should not be haveing any issues yet on a 2004. Check with a reputable dealer for warranty repairs. Sounds to me like it need to be stripped(I would have to see).Believe it or not, if you get a new paint job,if done properly,it will last alot longer.Aftermarket paints are alot more durable and most of all applied by a HUMAN! It's even worth paying for. Here in VA it would run you about $1800 to $2500 stripping would be extra. I know it sounds like alot, but that's average.
Hope that helps

Message: My 04 looks like it was in accident.
The paint in fenders/door opening/under hood/wheel wells is so light it's a different color also your right you can almost wash the paint off, If this truck was on the lot I'd walk past it thinking it was a repair job.I carry a bottle of touch up in glove box.

Message: By law they have to tell you if it was in a wreck. Somew don't. But if you bought it new,it's federal! It could have just been refinshed for what ever reason.
If you look in your door jambs,a sign it's been painted it that there will be paint inside that kinda dry, fuzzy. This happens as you spray the paint has to stop somewhere. As far as underneath the hood goes, the color may differant because they use an underhood color. This color is similar the outside but will have no metallic and will be semi-gloss. This is correct. You can also look for "dirt" in the paint. This looks like a pimple and the factory gets very few.

Message: I have a 2004 Dodge Dakota Club Cab with the tire/handling group that comes with the wheel flares. At 25000km the lower parts of the rear flares were toast. After much begging the dealership finally gave way and repainted them. Now they say that the 3/60km warranty is worth NOTHING after a year for paint. I had the same problem at 55000km and the service manager told me "thats just from road debris" Well duh! what did you think it was from, I'm coming to you to get this problem fixed AGAIN! this is absolutly UNACCEPTABLE on a 2 year old truck! We now are going to contact Chrysler about this "5 star" dealer. I will tell you one thing, that no matter how this ends, we will NOT be going back to fairview dodge in burlington ontario!!

Message: Got aon 04 Quad Cab 4x4. Mine chips and scratches easily but no other issues. Only a few scratches so far as I've been careful, and not very many chips. I remember one night I had a rear door open while I was getting something heavy out of the back seat and a gust of wind hit. The door only seemed to just barely tape the car next to me. Left no dings or anything but a tiny sliver of paint fell off the edge of the door. Went out and got door edge guards the next day. The paint is evenly coated with no other glaring flaws.
My main annoyance was even though I thought I gave the truck a thorough, complete, 100% once-over on the lot a few months after I got it I noticed dust particles here and there under the paint on certain panels.
