 Subject: 2001 Ash Tray Problem

I have a 2001 Dakota Sport which I recently purchase used. Sweet ride, however, I have an annoying problem with the ash tray periodically dropping down from the dash board by itself when I hit a few bumps.
Any idea how I can tighten this thing up? I have a Haynes manual and it does not disclose how to access the tilt control for the ash tray.
Any help would be appreciated.

The problem is in the mechanism that holds it closed. That should be enough of a hint.
Or there's duct tape.
Or you could run a big old screw through it to hold it shut.
Or you could pack it with JB-weld to epoxy it shut forever. It's also paintable, so you could paint it to match the decor.
Or you could just chuck the ash tray, and fill the space with a CB radio, gauges, switch panel, hidden camera for taking upskirt pictures of unsuspecting female passengers, etc.
Just let your mind go...you'll come up with something.

Maybe if enough people get together with this same problem dodge will recall it. It is a safety hazard. Imagine if the ash tray was full of well..ash. Windows down and that thing falls, well you got ash flying around in your truck. Ever get that sh!t in your eyes? it makes them water up and annoys the hell out of you. It is a huge distraction if you can't see.

I had this same problem and the dealership replaced the ashtray under warranty. I believe the service rep said there was a slight redesign because of the problem. I could not fix it myself after close examination.

no problem with my ashtray, but i am willing to wait for the safety recall where the ashtray is filled with hot ash , so when I put the windows down ash flies everywhere and get that sh!t in my eyes! LMAO!!!!!!!

Guys, DC D I D fix that peoblem!! They stopped
putting ash trays on 02's and newer!
