I have a 1997 dakota slt. After siting for a while I will half to crank on the engine more than I should to get it to start. And I have had times it didnt want to start at all but if I crank on it for just a second and then hit the start once more it will fire up with no problem. Has anyone had this problem? If so what did you do to fix it? I have been a mechanic for about 10 years but iam a diesel mechanic not gas engine the electronics are not alike. I thought it might be a fuel psi problem or an injector. Please reply if you can help me thanks.

Before you check your injectors and fuel pressure check your sparkplugs and wires and change your roter and cap. I have a 99 dakota and the rotor was done and 60000 miles. I mean done.

I was having a similar problem with my 92. Mine would act crazy after I got let it sit for a while. After I got it started, not problem, but if I let it sit for about 20 minutes I had to play with it to get it to start. It turned out to be my fuel pump and it was not maintaining enough pressure in the fuel system. It was a 3.9L Magnum V6 2WD.

Now I have a QC with the 4.7L V8.

Good luck!!

Robert
