Subject: fan defect? IP: Logged
Message: I have 00 dakota quad, 4.7 auto. You know how loud the fan is when you first start the engine, then it dies down as the engine heats up? That noise isn't going away. Even after driving hwy speed for 15 mins. Noise increases with acceleration. Any ideas on what's happening?

Message: remove the clutch fan, try it with just the electric fan for a day. new clutch fan if your ascared. fan "roar" should only last a minute or two at most, yours might be locked up.

Message: How hard on the engine is that? I seem to not have as much power when accelerating as well. Will I be able to take a 600 mile trip with it doing that?

Message: Sounds like the fan clutch is failing.
Feels like not much power when accelerating because the fan is turning at engine speed and is adding parasitic loss.
Removing the fan and fan clutch is an option, if you have an electric fan, as 'youcould' indicated above.
Replace the fan clutch if you're concerned about the engine cooling ability of that small electric fan.
