I have a 1997 dakota slt. After siting for a while I will half to crank on the engine more than I should to get it to start. And I have had times it didnt want to start at all but if I crank on it for just a second and then hit the start once more it will fire up with no problem. Has anyone had this problem? If so what did you do to fix it? I have been a mechanic for about 10 years but iam a diesel mechanic not gas engine the electronics are not alike. I thought it might be a fuel psi problem or an injector. Please reply if you can help me thanks.

I have a 2000 Quad Cab 3.9L Magnum. Same problem as you and others. 28,000 miles told today it was carbon build up on my throttle box and injectors. Recommend cleaning (serv tech recommended) every 15,000 miles. ?????? That's just what the 5* people said.

Well I fixed mine it was the fuel pump. It was not holding psi after the engine was shut off I replaced it and all has been fine from there on. Hook a fuel psi gauge to your port and ck the psi after the engine is shut off if it drops fast it is the fuel pump. The fuel regulator went bad in it but the bad thing is they dont just sell that you got to buy the whole thing. It is around $300.00 from the dealer but i pick mine up out of a junk yard for $70.00 I hope this helps you.
Thanks Chris
