Subject: Ball joints areadt fixed ???

I got my ball joints fixed in November, but now I just got the recall
notice. So my question is this, do I still have to take it in to the
$tealership? If so, what should I do if the $tealership says it was
already fixed? The ball joints they replaced look like the old ones-
lubed for life. So I'm only guessing that the new ball joints have
zerks to keep the properly lubed?

Got them replaced under warranty. Just wondering if
the ones the Dodge $tealership replaced last November
are the correct ones or the old faulty, lube for life
ones. They look like the old ones ( no zerk fitting ).

I own a 2000 Dakota qaud cab and recently received the recall notice. They tell me NOT to bring the truck in for repairs and have provided me with an extended warranty instead. My brother owns a 2004 Dakota and received the same recall and extended warranty notice. I wonder how the warranty will pay the hospital bills after we run off the road as a result of faulty parts. Has anyone had them replaced even after receiving the extended warranty?

Yes, I have. I was hearing the popping noise and took my 03' with 48k miles to the local dealer. They replaced the ball joints with no questions asked. They had already replaced them once under the normal warranty back at ~24k miles.

At this rate, I expect them to replace them 1-3 more times before I hit 100k miles. Then I will get them done right.

The new ball joints ARE different than the joints used in previous dealership repairs. The seals are designed better and should not allow moisture to displace the grease.

2. Whet if the dealer saye they were alredy done, even though it was done 2-3 months before the recall?

Just had mine replaced yesterday, new ones have no zerks. I noticed that ALL suspension popping noises disappeared.

I would say other than your wheel flying off, any popping noises while driving are an indication of deteriorating ball joints!

They also informed me I need new rack & pinion ...great.
