Subject: think my ball joints are going out.. IP: Logged
Message: when i make a full circle turning left on level ground it feels like the ground has bumps/potholes in it and it will often make a breaking sound, as if 2 pieces of metal are hit together. i have already had my ball joints go out on me, long before the recall was offical. but when my right side went out it sounded like the truck was bottoming out, and it's stock height. the left side only does it when i make U turns. what do yall think.

Message: but who are they going out with? and are you jelous.
really it sounds like you have the same probs I had with mine. I had a national chain do all four for under 275 installed with an alignment. That is cheaper then the dealer wants with the A arm attached 'cause that is the only way to get them from DC. Plus you can get them with zerk (for all you dropouts that is the CORRECT way to spell it) fittings so you can grease them every time you change oil.

For all you dropouts, that should be "cheaper THAN the dealer".

Message: I went to my local dealer and asked when was the soonest that I could get my Dakota in for the recall on the ball joint issue. The man behind the counter said something in the effect of a month, for which I replied that it was making a clunking noise. To this he replied that he could get me in in three days. I then asked about the replacement ball joints, simple questions like , "do they have a zerk so that I can grease them myself?" and "how long are these new joints good for?" to which he looked at me like I was some sort of trouble maker. I am just trying to hold on to the truck as long as I can and maintain it myself without a dealer touching it.

Then why did you go to the dealer and ask what you asked?

I considered taking it to the dealer for the
recall, replacement for free. Is that hard for
you to understand? Do you even own a
Dakota? I thought this was an adult forum,
why do you find something funny to say out of
anything people post?

No, its not hard to understand. What IS hard to understand is why you would go to the dealer and ask the questions you asked, but then state you have no interest in a dealer touching your vehicle. Just curious.
I own a Dakota and I work at a dealership service department. If you found something humorous about my post, so be it, but no humor was intended. As far as being an adult...my ID was checked at the door then I was asked about my graying hair.

First: When I stated that I wanted to work
on my own car without the dealer intervening it
was for a reason, which I know I don't have to
explain to you. The statement in the form of a
statement and not that of a question. Did you
notice the difference now?
Second: I was under the assumption that the
dealer was the authority on such matters
setting aside their personal adgenda.
Third: It is obvious that you have a personal
self interest in perserving your job security of
fixing all the problems associated with a
failing product.
Fourth: Thank you for all the positive info you
have provided, IF ANY.........

Message: For JasonB. Is there a source for TSBs that we mere mortals can read the body of the TSB? Alldata lists their titles, but not much else. For some unknown reason, the local Dodge Service Dept won't let me near them. I'd like to learn about my Dakota, and if these TSBs have fixes that I can perform, why would the Service Dept not want that? They always seem real busy and any request for information gets treated resentfully.

Obviously you have something to hide or a hidden adgenda. Send me a picture and then I will tell you if I think there is someone GAY in the house.

You can find TSB's listed on the NHTSA website. It's a screwed up layout, but they are there for the public to view.
