Message:
I have a 1996 dakota and for the last 4 winters I have had an intermittent idling problem. Here's what it does:

Sometimes after you start the truck it won't stay idling, but it always restarts. The dealer has replaced the air idling motor twice but problem re-occurs. This problem only exists when it become winter time and it does not happen all the time.

Anyone got a solution for this?--the dealer sure in the hell can't fix it.

Thanks

You might get more responses if you post your problems under your engine type..
Anyway - possible Intake Air Temp sensor bad
possible injector/s poor
possible poor program in computer-although dealer
should have been able to correct the program..

I recently had problems with my 2003 quad cab dying when cold. It might start right up and then die. Then you would have to goose the gas to get it to start and keep your foot on the gas to keep it running. Problem started once temperature got to be 40 degrees or less. Once the engine was warm the problem went away. Dealer had it for 3 weeks before we finally got it fixed. It ended up being the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) Sensor. Never showed any codes on the computer when it died and never gave a check engine light. If symptons sound familiar it could be your problem.

my wife's malibu did the same thing you posted. on cold start up in the winter. it would just die but start back up. took it to the dealership 40 times and they said she didnt know how to start a fuel inj. car. took it to another dealership and they said it was the fuel filter. they replaced it and never had the prob again. you might want to change the filter before spending alot of money. remember always do the cheapest fix first. after all its prob the cheapest part that goes bad lol. try the filter first.

I learned the hard way while I was in the Air Force. I worked B52 bombers. had a prob with the plane and spent $40,000 to try and fix the plane. come to find out it was a 25 cent part. oh well good thing it wasnt my money but the tax payers money. now you know why our country is in debt lol
