I just tried to roll down my front power windows on a 2002 Dakota Quad Cab. Outside temp. below freezing. There was not indication that the motors were working hard as I would normally hear if the windows were frozen. I hear an instant bang from both front door just as I touched both switches. I'm told I have to change the complete regulator assemblies, over $600. Truck only has 80,000 kms or about 30,000 miles. Just off warr.

Anyone else had this problem??

Rick-
This is a fairly common problem for Durangos and Dakotas. Haven't had to replace any in my '02 Quad Cab, but did all four in my '00 Durango. The problem is that the brushes in the regulator motors are a poor design (we've heard that before, eh?) and sometimes slip a bit, and get jammed in the housing. Many times, you can temporarily fix the problem by slamming the affected door VERY HARD a few times... I've done it, and it seems to drop the brushes back into position for awhile. Another guy in my Durango club couldn't get the Slam-Fix to work, so he pulled the door panel off and smacked the regulator with a hammer a few times. When he reconnected the switches, it was working again. If you have to replace the regulators, they are available from dodgeparts.com for US$46.76 (right side) and $62.79 (left)... about $15-$20 less than Dealer list. If you want to do-it-yourself, I can scan the pages from my 2000 Factory Service Manual, or maybe someone on the Forum has the 2002 manual. Email me if you need anything.
