Subject: recall question IP: Logged
Message: does anybody know what they will replace the ball joints with? It wouldn't seem like common sense to me to replace a problem(current ball joints) with another problem.
Has anyone actually called their dealership and tried to setup an appointment to get their ball joints replaced?

Message: I just spoke to the service manager at my local dealership and he told me that Dodge will have to come up with another design to complete the recall. Most dealerships were just hit with this news of a recall notice this morning, although the service departments are all pretty much aware that it was coming because the problems are well known.
He told me that new kits would have to be sent out to the dealerships and this should take about 3-4 weeks. Then we can schedule an appointment to get it fixed under warranty or recall notification with the new design. By this time we should all recieve a letter from Chrysler detailing the recall and warranty that is being issued.
FYI* Front End alignments will not be offerred under the recall/warranty campaign. If a front end alignment is requested/needed then you will have to pay for it.

Message: another design? sounds great, I was hoping for something more durable. Thanks for the info, and keep us posted.
As far as the front end alignment, is that something that is needed due to the replacement of the ball joints? I have yet to contact my dealership, just kinda been waiting for the dust to settle a bit. But thanks for the input.

Message: When I had my balljoints replaced 2 months ago they said when they are replaced you must have an alignment which they did and the warranty covered it.

Message: Why would they replace the ball joints and not do an allignment if it's a vital step in returning everything back to normal condition? It just doesn't make sense, they have to do it then right?

Message: I just spoke to the service dept. at my local dealership. When I asked about the recall, the guy told me that Chrysler would be "sending out mailers" to those affected by the recall, notifying them when to make appointments. He also said that they don't have the parts to fix this problem yet, but should have them in and start making appointments on Monday 12/20. He told me to call back then. Sorry, that's all the information I could get from this guy.
P.S-Does anyone know of a good manual with step by step instructions on how to replace the rotors on my dak? I'm thinking of doing aftermarkets on my own

Message: I have a 1999 Dodge Dakota 4X4.
Ball joints failed at 38,960mi. March 2001. Out Warrenty as per dealer.
Dealer wanted $920 to fix.
Repaired by Sullivan Tire for $620.
Question: Dodge Recall Phone # 800 853-1403 and 800 992-1997, line advised 1999 Vechiles aren't covered by the recall.
Anyone know when / if 1999 owners will get relief ?

The info you got from that dealer is about all there is to know right now. Parts kit are on the way to the dealserships. Parts quantities will be limited for several days once they are in stock. Owner notifications will be in the mail within a few days. Dealerships CAN now check your VIN to verify that the recall applies. As of the moment, no details are available concerning the 10/100 warranty on 2wd's.

Message: My dealer has indicated the replacement balljoints are "heavy duty" and covered by the recall even if balljoints were previously replaced. I'll log info after my install scheduled for Jan 13 - may get more info on exactly how the replacements are better.

Message: I have a 03 Dak QC 4X4 and when I called the dealer they told me that my truck was made in Jan of 03 and wasnt in the recall. this makes me a lil uneasy because its so close to the recall cut off date. I just hope my truck wasnt side lined when being made and they got it done in Jan 03 lol.
My sisters 99 dakota had the arm to the ball joint snap in half while she was on the interstate and wiped out a guard rail. I must say the truck is built tough going 65 and doing a 180 and hitting the guard rail. sister and bro in law was unhurt and what a heck of an impact it is. anyone hear about other daks close to 1999 modles doing this?
