Has anyone experienced a dead cell in their Dakota factory battery? My 98 Dakota was idling a little rough one day, I didn't think much of it at first, I parked and shut down and when I tried to start it an hour later nothing but clicks from the starter. The strange thing is that the dash lights were acting funky and I never had any kind of warning like slow starts, dim lights, etc. The dealer said there was a dead cell in the battery and gave me a story that Dodge has a low voltage protection system that shuts everything down when the battery is weak. I really don't buy that and I now cross my fingers everytime I start my truck. Oh, I do know a person that has a 97 Dakota and he had the same problem and in less than a year he had to replace the battery again.

get another dealer at least one that is honest with you . Mine says that in 97 and 98 the battery supplier for Chrysler sent the factory a bunch of bad ones and that almost all the ones that were subjected to high heat followed by a very cold winter went bad. my dealer replaced it for no charge to me even tho it was out of warrenty. 97 3.9 CC stock

The battery in my '97 Dakota didn't last two years before it was toast. If you can afford it, I would consider getting an Optima battery. they seem to be superior to any conventional battery that is on the market.

Same problem with my 97 after a cold winter. It was replaced, and I was told the reasoning behind the problem was the Stereo Amplifier that was connected to the battery. What a crock! I may not no everything about battery power, but I do know that a punch 100 isn't gonna hurt that huge battery in a matter of 3 months.
