Subject: Stalling in Reverse? Tranny issues..

Message:
I just bought a 99,V6,auto. 4x4 about 2 weeks ago. It has about 68k miles on it. The person I bought it from was a mechanic and supposingly kept up all the maintenance. Last friday i noticed my tranny was slipping going into 3 gear. Check all my fluids everything seemed to be fine and hasnt happend since. However I was backing into a parking spot yesterday and as soon as i put it in reverse, it stalled out on me. Someone told me this is a common problem in tranny having to do with automatically engaging the clutch and something with the computer? Anyone else have these problems or know what it could be. I really dont feel like spending $1500 for a new tranny already! (Im figuring if he was a mechanic, he knew something was wrong and thats why he sold it. Now im stuck)
