Subject: A fix for the 5 speed? IP: Logged
Message: By any chance, is there a fix (flash) to cure the
five speed auto tranny in a 4.7 Dakota from going
out of overdrive for every little incline in the
road?
I'd rather not take it to a stealership and
complain or worse, leave the Dakota for them to
screw with the tranny IF there has never been a
recall for that problem.
I'm really sorry I bought this set up in my 02
Dakota and it will NEVER happen again. My next one
will be a four speed or stick and that's IF I buy
another Dakota again. I'm REALLY tired of fixing
ALL of DC's faults with them.

You could try adjusting the cable - see above link
just don't move it too much or it won't
kickdown when you want it to....

If you're doing less than 60MPH, turn the overdrive OFF.
It saves wear and tear on the transmission, and is a little more fuel efficient, as well.

Message: On my 03, the tranny will drop going up steep inclines with the cruise on. When I'm on manual, I can hold speed with the accellerator w/o the tranny shifting down (it'll only down shift on the steepest inclines).
I'm not so sure the computer doesn't learn the road after awhile, There's numerous steep inclines on the Intertate to my folks' home & also on the way back. I do alot of in town driving & initially, the tranny downshifts on the inclines, yet coming back to my home, it rarely if ever does it & there's 2 major inclines along the way.
My 03 is a 4.7 with 5 speed auto FT4WD & 3.92 gears.

Message: TSB 18-013-04 is the latest flash addressing tranny shift schedules. I believe it was released in the spring. I've had my PCM updated and I don't find it comes out of OD sooner than it should.
