Message: don't be surprised if they ask you to show proof of all the oil changes. the problem is if you don't have the proof, did the oil changes yourself,or missed one by a few miles they will deny your claim. i have done alot of research and there are stories on the internet where the people had taken their cars back to the dealers where they purchased the cars/trucks and they had proof and the dealers had the computer data and the warranties were denied! the most standard answer is that the customer abused the engine?! dodge/chrysler has a real good scam. you pay extra for the extended warranty and then it is added into the price of the finacing and you've payed alot for something that they will 95% of the time deny the claim. people have to pay an attorney to recover the $3000 to $5000 to recover the price of a new engine + the lawyer fee which adds about another $10,000 to $12,000 on to the price. If it goes to court the court can award the price of the engine but not the legal fees. for it cost more than it's really worth. Chrysler is counting on most people dropping the issue because of the cost involved. they know what they are doing.I am really down on chrysler and i wish you all the best. BUT be prepared for their answer!.

The other manufactures are doing the same thing there by sending there unhappy buyers to crysler or who ever. Thing is they care less because in the big picture nobody loses except the buyer and as they are more then willing to show.....WE ARE EXPENDABLE

Message: “2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4X4 With 4.7 Liter Engine”
Driving down the highway in mid February, I noticed a check gauges light and audible alarm. I looked down to see that there was no oil pressure. I immediately pulled over and turned the truck off. I popped the hood checked the oil noticed it was a little low but not dysfunctional. It is about 600 miles from oil change time. I figured it must have been some mishap electrically and started up the truck sure enough the oil pressure came right up. I set there idol for a moment or two and then decided to proceed on cautiously watching the gauges. Shortly after getting up to speed the oil pressure started to drop off again. I pulled over again and called the local dealership Smith Stokes Dodge in Reidsville, NC and discussed warranty with the service department. I then called Tar Heel Towing and had the truck delivered to Stokes’ dealership. I received a call late that evening from George the service rep saying he did not see anything wrong with the truck and wanted more information (no tech had looked at the truck at this point). We talked and he said he would have the techs look at it the following Monday and get back with me. When Monday came and passed they had not checked out the truck no big deal. Tuesday came and I received a call from George saying the truck needed a new engine and would not be warranty covered. I told him I would come by. When I got to the dealership George had a estimate of over $7K for parts only for a new motor. (Keep in mind it was running fine when I had it towed, I had it towed as a precautionary method). To beat all he said it would be up to me to pay this out of pocket. Now the truck only has 69,043 miles on it and has been serviced by Crown Dodge in Greensboro, NC three times, once by a local garage and he the remaining six time by me at home. George said with out 20 receipts showing oil changes I would be out of luck. I then started going to the owner’s manual and showing them where there Manufacturers suggested maintenance ever 6000 miles and no receipts were required. Then George said he would contact the corporate rep and see what he could do. He would call me the next day and let me know. I did not here from George so on the second day I called back to see what the situation had progressed to. He wanted me to come by again and I did to talk about the Corp rep would be willing to come out and inspect the truck if I agreed to pay $580.00 for rmoval of oil pan and put back together if Corp Rep said no warranty coverage. Of course I told him that I had no choice that I had done all the things required of me and OK’d the work. It would be three to five days before they would have an answer. We agreed to talk again on Thursday the following week. Again George did not call and I had to contact him. The Factory guy did not come in but would be there the next day. George calls me Friday and tells me that the Corp Rep said no coverage, I went to the dealership and looked at the motor and sure enough it had some sludge in the valve cover area. George said he would have the oil pan and valve covers re-installed and call me when the truck was ready. I went to the Service Manager and he said he had no control and I would have to call a 800 number to Chrysler to get assistance. I contacted an attorney and asked about my situation and he suggested I follow a arbitration process and see where that would go. I started the process and began calling Pete Stokes General Manager. I called on three different occasions and went to the dealership to try to see him personally with no luck. I will make this very long story shorter by saying I am currently working with the NC Attorney General trying to resolve this issue legally. If any one would be interested in helping with this problem I would like to get a reply from you. They should not be able to get away with this.
Thanks
Jeff

Message: All these problems with the 4.7 engine. I have heard the same things about just about every car. Horror stories. My 2001 Durango is getting upwards to 55,000 miles on it. Prime time for my engine to blow up. If I drove it then no worries, but it's my wifes ride. The whole backend could be on fire and she would continue to drive on down the road. She's not as in tune with little rattles, and pesky things like warning lights and guages. I figure I am just living on borrowed time. I pray we get it paid off before it tanks.

Message: Have a 4.7 L in my Jeep Gr Cherokee - just discovered that valve noise that recently developed was a connecting rod. 245,000 km on the engine.
Always changed oil every 5,000 km (3,000 mi) until last June.
Then towed trailer across country & back (Jeep has factory trailer kit)
One thing lead to another, never got it in for the oil changes after. Went 20,000 km (12,000 mi) before got it in after wife reported 'valves' suddenly very noisy. Shop found lots of sludge in engine. Flushed it, new HD oil. Next day noise level went through the roof, took it to my most trusted mech, found I need a new engine. Interestingly - still looking for one - none avialable from the yards, no rebuilder will touch it, will probably have to import a 'remanufactured one from the USA.
Wish I knew this about these engines before.

You just need good oil. Like the advertised 'fully synthetic' that's not truely synthetic at all.

Message: We have a 2004 dodge dakota. 4.7 L engine 4x4. Purchased it fromTurlock Auto Plaza. We have had nothing but problems. First it was overheating, then there was a noisy valve problem, had to replace the heads. The dealership tried to get out of the warranty, then after they worked on it, we've had more crap go wrong with it. We are trying to start a civil lawsuit against chysler/dodge. If there is anyone interested in joining us in this fight, feel free to contact me. Or if anyone has dealt with Turlock Auto Plaza (Tom) in the service department please contact me

Message: I have a 2004 Dodge Durango, bought it new. It also has the 4.7 Liter Engine. It now has 49,000 miles on it and is sitting in my driveway because WINSTON PITTMAN CARDINAL DODGE in Louisville, Kentucky refuses to honor my extended warranty. I have reported to the BBB, I am working to get a story going with the local Troubleshooter and I plan on contacting the Attorney General. All of this due to OIL SLUDGE!!!! It's a huge problem and I encourage each and every one of you to write your Attorney General, BBB, and whomever you may have in your community to help. This is a malfunction with the manufacturer and the problem needs to be corrected.

Message: I have a 2000 4x4 dakota engine has clattered since 30000 miles. I have 130,000 on it now. I have been using autoRx in every oil change and the problem goes away for a while and then comes back. Somedays it doesn't rattle at all but I've had to put an entire front end under it and a transmission so far. Just trying to nurse the engine along for now. I have also been using 5w30 instead of the thicker oils in the hopes that it can drain back quicker even if the oil return holes are getting clogged.
