My 99 Dakota 3.9L-auto 4x4 has 50K miles. Been very happy--no problems except for some bad spark plugs which were replaced. However, just last week, the engine now performs as if I were riding the clutch too mutch. This over-revving occurs at the lower gears at all times and at the higher gears sometimes which causes somewhat less power performance and much racket. Drove with the dealer's mechanic, but he said that the tranny is performing fine. This is good because this means the tranny is okay--BUT there is a problem. For this, the dealer has been no help. Any ideas out there what might be causing this problem? Thanks in advance.

The problem was a bad fan clutch assembly. Everything is fine again.
