Just some general info on why our ball joints are going to sh*t long before they're supposed to. Check out the third item from the top. There is a part number for a replacement ball joint on the bottom of the page.

Message: I just had new, larger tires installed on my 2002 Dakota 4-Door QuadCab 4WD w/4.7 engine and when I asked for an alignment I was informed by an independant garage that I needed 3 of 4 ball joints replaced and that the 4th was also showing wear and tear. Is there a 'silent recall' or 'case-by-case' recall by Dodge as I find this MOST DISAPPOINTING? Please advise. Thanks, Karl in Wisconsin

Message: Huh. So everyone but Dodge acknowledeges that there's a prob with the ball joints.
Karl, I've heard of some people getting their ball joints replaced for free by the dealer but they just reinstall the same junk. I guess it depends on your dealer and how much of a stink you make, but with the larger tires it kinda gives them an out.

Thanks for the response and comments. I am not sure if you caught it in my previous email, but, the defective Ball Joints on my 2 year old 4DR 4-WD Dakota were discovered immediately AFTER I installed the new 'over-sized tires' by the front-end alignment shop. The sorry part of all of this is that a local Dodge Truck Dealer erroneously reported to the factory that my oversized tires definitely contributed to the ball joint failures, and, also that I had installed a 'Lift Kit' (simply not True, NO Lift Kit exists) onto my truck. Hmmmm, this is all physically impossible....as the bad Ball Joints were found AFTER the new, bigger tires had been installed (and, there NEVER EVER was a 'Lift Kit' installed, even today)?????? Anyways, the 'internal computer file' from the Dodge Customer (non)Service/ Consumer Affairs people now shows all of this to be correct information (even though I offered both digitals and signed statements to the contrary). Currently, anyone from DODGE Corporate that reviews my file will erroneously assume that my bigger tires caused the problem. Nothing could be further from the truth!!!! I guess some of the (warranty/service)people at Dodge are always looking for an 'out' when it comes to covering their warranty responsibilities and obligations (hey, all of you Dodge employees that peruse this website; check it out when you get back to work as I only speak of the TRUTH). Seriously, have any of you people out there EVER tried to have incorrect information removed from an internal digital computer file maintained by Dodge Corporate? All of a sudden, no one wants to talk to you..... However, in spite of all of this, I still love my DODGE, but, I often wonder how I would be treated by another truck manufacturer in a situation such as this. Comments? Karl Z in Wisconsin

Message: It's an old subject. Dodge is trying to cover up nothing. There has been an investigation (not sure of the current status) concerning ball joints on Dodge Durangos and Dakotas. Do a web search for real information instead of looking for people to whine with.

Message: Jason B; Whine you say???? Hmmmmm, I like wine with my cheese and crackers. So.....have you ever heard of the term or adage "Strength In Numbers' or 'United We Stand'?. Apparently not.... because OBVIOUSLY, as the trendy term 'SYNERGY' clearly denotes: "The Total Sum of ALL is Greater Than the Individal Sum Totals". In other words, because we, the people are united for a common cause (or simply a manufacturing/ vendor defect, in this case) we have now become VICTORIOUS as Dodge HAS acknowledged a real problem with the Ball Joints by subsequently issueing a 'Recall Notice' only a few weeks ago. Have a nice day, have a nice life. signed; CheeseHead in Wisconsin
