Well, my Dak has 62000 miles on it, and the Lower Ball Joints finally went out. I'm going to have the stealer warrenty it for me, if they don't, does anyone know if MOOG makes lower ball joints for the 2001 4x4?

How did they go out? on the road? or did you just keep checking them and finally noticed that they were out. How can I find out if mine are going out? i have an '01 dak, 4.7 v8, cab plus. Let me know, too bad though.

I was trying to get my alignment done, and the guy said he could not align because there was too much play in the lower ball joint.
Oh well.

If you go to NHTSA.gov and log a complaint they will contact you for an interview if any of you are interested. They are doing an investigation on the Dakota and Durango. The guy that interviewed me said that with what they have so far he is almost certain there will be a recall very very soon.

jdwag - are your ball joints going out? and have you kept in contact with the guy who interviewed you? Anything new? I hope I don't have to replace them out of my own pocket, I don't know how much something like that would cost...

Rockauto.com has both upper and lower ball joints for $45 each. I also found some at a local CarQuest for around $60 each. This is for 2000 - 2003 year models. They have them for 2WD and 4WD. The 4WD MOOG part numbers are K7392 for the uppers and K7395 for the lowers.

Gave NHTSA my $0.02 since I'm currently doing all 4 ball joints! Given the hell the truck's been thru, I'm replacing both CV axles while it's all out -$60 ea. - 1 lost it's grease recently. Thinking of replacing the wheel hubs while i'm at it - don't plan on ripping this crap apart ever again!!!
