Subject: Misfire & Backfire IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1997 Dakota Sport V6 3.9L 4x4 5spd with 215000KM on it.
I recently started expierencing some misfire and backfire through the throttle-body during all driving speeds and conditions. The more I drove it, the worse the condition got.
The truck is out of warranty, so I took it to my mechanic but he's having a problem too!
So far we have replaced the following:
Spark Plugs, Distributor Cap, Rotor, Plug Leads and Computer. He has also checked the coil and the entire wiring harness as well as the jets/injectors. We have taken it for a couple of test drives and over a distance of about 15Km the computer counts a consistant 56 - 66 misfires and always in Cylinder #3.
The only thing we can think of to check now is gaskets in the block and the fuel intake system.
Does anybody have any other ideas we can persue before I go about ripping apart the engine?
Thnaks
Help much needed!!! :)
