 Subject: Wiper recall on '02-04

In case this concerns anyone, '02-'04 Dakotas have a recall for the wiper motor. Something about water leaking into the motor and stopping the wipers. The recall replaces the motor and crank arm assembly. Recall number is D22. It's pretty recent so most of you prolly haven't gotten a notice yet.

Anyone gone and had this recall done? My fear is that all they'll do is run a bead of sealer onto the cowl to prevent water from seeping in.

Just called the dealer to set up an appointment to get the wiper motor recall work done. He said the part was on 'national backorder' and had no idea when it will come in. It may be a LONG TIME.
So to fix the problem, just cover the wiper motor in duct tape and hope for the best, or pray for drought... ;)

Jesus. Well let's see we produced 40,000 trucks that all have recall notices.. lets produce 183 parts to fix them.. that should work out ok!

Wait until the ball joint recall happens. It will take 2 YEARS to get them all replaced.

Okay, just out of curiosity, I checked with another dealer in the area and he was able to get the motor replaced the next day. The day I got it fixed, I called the other dealer and was told it was still on "national backorder" and it would be "at least a couple of months until we get any..." Now my question is, which dealer is BSing me? Did I just get ripped off by the second dealer (by NOT doing the work and saying they did) or by the first dealer who wants me to wait several more months? It just seems a bit weird that two dealers, less than 30 miles apart can have such different stocking issues.

I called my dealer today and said any day after 4:00. He said " how about today?" I'm going to talk to him about balljoints.
