Message: My 2004 dakota quad cab has almost 3000 miles on it. When I drive about 45 and up or down hill there is an allover vibration when the back windows are down. But also, when driving with the windows up like that, I sometimes feel like the truck is hesitating, like I can't keep at a steady 50mph..its shaky...so then I give it more gas. Its weird.

Message: lol, i had the same dam problem. it's your transmission fluid. The clutch pack that's in your transmission is slipping and torque convertor is shuddering. That is a typical symtom of Transmission fluid failure.
You didn't add any additives like slick 50 or something like that did you?
If, it's got that low of mileage. This is what i would do.
Disconnect the battery. Wait 10 min. Then reconnect. Then go drive it. This is training your computer the shift points and friction in your transmission.
If, that doesn't work. Add a bottle of lubeguard Transmission Helper. From Napa for $12.99. Get the red bottle.
If, the vibration goes away, i would force the dealer to flush your trans out. Tell them what you did to get rid of the vibration. Since it's so new.

Message: Hold off on the bottle and try your dealer first. No sense in taking a chance of voiding anything. 7 years/70,000 miles is a long way off for $12.99....

Message: hmmm,
Have you ever taken your vehicle to a dealer under warranty and told them it vibrates?
Go ahead try it. You will keep trying it many times. Eventually you will get this line "It's suppose to be there".
Just my 2 cents.

Message: I have a 2003 that seems to have that vibration as well.It comes from the rear of the truck.
At the same speeds as you mentioned, I took it to the dealer to no avail. Since I have my own
Shop, I am going to take a look at the rear diff and see if there is something there.I think that
the pinion gear bearing preload, might not be right. Then I will take a look at the pinion bearing itself.

Message: i too have a 2004 dakota 4.7/5-speed with the same vibration at 43-48 mph. the mirrors go fuzzy on me. i know it is coming from the rear axle but the dealer claims it is an exhaust drone. the driveshaft has been rebalanced and tires replaced with no luck. truck only has 1800 miles on it! clutch went out at 1600 miles too!!!. if any one determines if it is the rear end please let me know,i'll make someones day bad at the dealer!!!

Message: My 04' QC started the 42-50mph vibration at 1500 miles. It's been to the dealer ( Bellevue Dodge, Bellevue Washington) twice, the first time they said they couldn't find anything wrong, however the tech said they drove it on surface streets (35mph) and the freeway 60mph+. The second visit was at 3500 miles the foreman says that it must be normal because Dodge has no repair for the problem and that his Dakota does the same thing but he doesn't pay attention to it. I'm already looking at trading it in, I waited a long time to pay cash for a brand new truck and the vibration bothers me enough that I don't want to keep it.

At 42 to 50 mph, I would expect it to be tire or wheel related. Find a shop (dealer or otherwise) that can do a "Road Force" balance. This is the best way to confirm or eliminate tire/wheel possibilities.

Message: jeph, do you have the 3.7 v6 w/auto in that truck? if so, that problem has been posted on here and also a fix. it has something to do with that 3.7/ auto combo in a QC. i believe some sort of software "fix" that DC came up with. try the search feature @ the top of the forum. it's here somehwere.

Message: daddio is right. As of Jan, 6th 2005 Dodge has a TSB out for any 3.7l.auto dakota. The torque converter is locking in at too low of an RPM and therefore trasferring the uneven firing of the engine pistons into a vibration that can be felt in the cab. Typicially this is between about 41-55mph on most trucks, although it depends on gearing. I had my truck "fixed" yesterday and it is completely gone now. No shuddering and no problem. Just mention a torque converter shudder or give them your vin # and they can look it up. It took about 1.5Hrs for them to complete the flash. Pretty much all the flash does it tell the torque converter to lockup at a later RPM, after the engine has smoothed out. hope this helps

Message: With all due respect, some of you guys need to be careful when you assume that similar symptoms on different vehicles (even though they may be the same model, make, year and driveline options) means that you have the same failure. You can have a vibration at those speeds for several reasons and without complete driveline diagnostics being performed, you are guessing. Take the information from others as a suggestion only, don't go raising he11 at a shop or dealership because of an internet diagnosis.

Message: Does anyone know the number of the TSB? I have this problem and the dealer is not aware of this TSB. They asked me to get the TSB number to see if they can help me.
