There is an on going investigation on the ball joints for dodge dakota and durango. The NHTSA is in charge of the investigation. If you have had problems with ball joints you must contact them and file a complaint. There number is 1-888-327-4236, or file on line at www.nhtsa.dot.gov . The more complaints they have reported the better chance they will have to see how big of an issue the ball joints really are. Thank You

The e-mail I got back from the NHTSA says that the ball joint problem has been escalated to an engineering anaylsis number EA03023. This is for the Durango, but the Dakota is associated with this. This was upgraded in Nov of 2003. Do file complaints at the NHTSA. Their WEB site is
