Subject: 02 Dakota making groaning noise IP: Logged
Message: I have noticed my SXT 2002 Dakota to make a weird groaning noise when coasting at all speeds. IT kinda sounds like when you shift down in manual and let off the clutch. My dakota is automatic and I am not sure where the problem is. THe majority of the noise is coming from the front left side. But I can also hear it from the front right. IT is def. more noticiable at slow speeds. My brother believes it is a bearings issue, but I am not sure. I am bringing it into the dealership and want to give some clue on what it might be, any help would be appreciative.
Thanks,
Brady

Message: I have a 97 dakota that makes the same noise that your talking about. I talked to a master mechanic about it and he also said it could be the wheel bearing. I am not sure if that is actually the solution or not but I am taking the same course of action you are and taking it to the dealership.

Message: The dealership told me somehow moisture got inside the gear box and the bearings. Not sure if that helps, just thought I would mention it.
