Message: My '97 Dakota makes a popping sound when I make a sharp turn into a parking spot and backing out. Is this related to the ball joint problems the Dokota's are having?

Message: I drive a Dodge Durango, which I think uses a lot of Dakota parts. My lower ball joints need replacing at only 64,000 miles. Is this normal?

Message: I have a 2000 quad cab dakota, I had to replace the shocks a second time at 60,000 miles. While the mechanic advised me that my ball joints on the dakota were completely wasted, and stated.... "dont know how your wheels still stayed on the vehicle." I had recieved a letter from Dodge, for a recall. "only the upper ball joints only." the local dodge dealership replaced the uppers only, and stated that im on my own for the lowers. The price would be around $600 to $700 to fix. I was very up-set, so I called around to have a local garage's to replace my lower ball joints and no one could locate any because for some reason Dodge is making the ball joints hard to locate. "what a joke" this is going to be the last dodge product i will ever purchase.

Message: In February 2005, I was driving home from work with my infant daughter in the truck with me. (1997 Dodge Dakota V6 with 2 wheel drive.) We live in the mountains and I must go down a 9% grade with 4 s-type curves (maximum safe speed 30 mph). I realized before we hit the grade that something was wrong and had slowed down to 2 mph in 1st gear. I ran off the road in the first curve, saved it only to wreck in the second curve. Ramey Dodge in Princeton, WV had my truck 24 hours, could find nothing wrong. My dad took it and had the front end checked at another mechanics, found out the upper and lower ball joints were shot. The guy said my dad would not make it back to the Dodge dealership with the wheel intact. He made it but the wheel fell off when they tried to pull it into the bay at the dealership. I was told there was no recall on any ball joints and I would have to pay the full amount. Being a single mom, I could not afford this bill. It was $900.00. Dodge needs to be made to issue a recall of ALL UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS. I wasn't angry over the repair but over Dodge's neglect to issue a recall when so many people are having to replace these parts. Also, my daughter could have been killed if I had not realized there was something wrong and went down that mountain grade at normal speed.
I am collecting information to send to the NTSB and Dodge. Dodge needs to be made to issue a recall and the only way to do it is to bombard NTSB and Dodge with complaints. Who knows if anyone has been killed by their wheel coming off?
I am not willing to wait for that to happen.
Sorry this is so long but I am still angry after 2 1/2 months. Thanks for letting me vent.
