corroded latch in salty areas, like Utah, Coastal,
etc.
How can you gauge wear?

Message: The recall isnt for the dakotas...right now its only on the rams...but you should still watch it, if you see it rust or corrode you should take it to a dealer and have them look at it

Message: my hood latch was also faulty, I found out the hard way when i was driving down the freeway and my hood popped up at 65 mph. Not fun. After i took it in, the hood latch was correded and needed to be replaced.

Message: I saw the recall for the Ram also and took a few moments to check my '97 Dak's latch. Had a lot of salt and rust build up on it and it did not work well at all. used a can of WD.40 and gave it a few squirt then worked the latch vigorously for a moment or two and all my problems went away. I live in the midwest near Lake Erie.
