There is a TSB for this, (sorry don't know it, but it's been posted before)

The dealer fixed mine for free by sealing the whole in the firewall around the tube, etc.

NO water anymore, for years.

2001, Quad cab, SLT................

Jeremy Barnes, I have a 97 dakota ext cab. Where are the drain holes in the right hand rocker? You said if plugged with factory seam sealer, water would build up in the A pillar. Any help would be appreciated.

WL,

I didn't have that problem.

But I think to answer your question, look under the truck under the panel and see if the drain holes are plugged. Dirt, grit, leaves, anything can do this, causing water to fill up in the quarter panel, etc. after rains, car washes, etc.

I have found the water leak of my Dodge Dakota 2004 inserting the hose into the corner of the right post near the Ac air in take. Took the plastic cover of my windshield wipers and inserted the hose and let the water run. Follows the path of the right post or from the corner down.
Do I have to take the full dash panel to fix the leak??? or there is an easy way around to seal the seam or crack or what ever is letting the water in. Comes from that corner near the Ac intake for sure. my fire wall is all crack on the bottom floor part, and the foam pad all wet. Start it to happen this summer or I noticed this summer, the carpet soaking wet., Any body wit

My 2004 Dakota 4 door also is soaked in the front passenger floorboard. No rain for awhile, but constantly wet. Obviously from a/c drain but I cannot find the drain to clean it. Starting to be a real problem and must get fixed. Will try to find drain behind cover on firewall. Thanks for all of the notes here that give me something else to look at.

Should've been suspicious as the truck had this funky smell mixing in with the air freshener and detailing stuff that had been done to pretty the truck up for sale. Been having wet/dry carpet for a while (pass. side). Suspecting a rain leak as a few days recently I was blasting the AC and carpet was dry. We just had rain and there's a bucket of water in the floor and the rubber firewall cover w. foam backing is loaded, too. I will see what's what and report results. THANKS DODGE.

I have 2005 crew cab. It is definitely the A/C. Just spent about half hour looking around while A/C was on. Water coming in under carpet. I wipe it up and it reappears but I can't see where it's running down. Can't get to the drain hose to clean it or adapt it. But according to TexasTodd's post, there is a TSB on his 2001 and the dealer fixed it.

(2005 Club) High-mount/cab brake light went out. What a JOKE is the paper-thin "gasket" they used. I have waterstains on the headliner all above the rear window. Ran a heavy bead of black silicone sealer around light and reinstalled w. new bulbs. Now getting water on floorboard when A/C runs. No water after HEAVY rains. It's a tiny amount but I see how it can quickly accumulate and load up in the padding and foam backing of the floorboard/firewall covers. CANNOT get to the drain - inside or out. I am going to the dealer (I have a warranty package) and see what's what. My bet is the drain tube still lets water in at certain speeds or that the draining water in the engine compartment is flowing down the firewall and has a way in through a bad weld, cracked filler putty or other opening. Will report outcome. Meanwhile, check your high-mount (cab) lights for these terrible gaskets. Seal 'em up better or rain will get in for sure.

Now I have searched for the drain line access behind the engine on the firewall. I am not sure there is a panel that can be removed to expose the hose. WIll try again but this is rediculous.

I have recently noticed this same problem with a puddle of water. My carpet is soaked the matting under the carpet is ruined and moldy I was told to call the water doctor at $150.00 he can repair. I would rather fix myself. I have a general idea where it is coming from need suggestions on where to start! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I just discovered this problem on an 03 after having to run some coax under the rug. A swimming pool! Anyway, if you look at the drain from under the dash while the A/C is running, you can see the condensation from the drain tube running back into the vehicle. I suspect the foam after 8 years has failed causing the leak. The dealer said to get some roofing silicone (high heat stuff) and goop it around the drain hole. You must cut away the sub-mat to access the area. I did this yesterday and will wait a day or so to let it cure. Hope it works.

Should've updated about Jan 2010... 2005 Dakota - FINALLY it was fixed after the third trip to the shop. First time, they said that there are seals involving the evaporator case - this was the leak. Okay for about a week and again the floor was getting wet. They checked again and determined the door on passenger also had some bad gaskets/weathershields, etc. Assumed that this was it and of course had water again a few days later. This time they said that the original evaporator case job had been done incorrectly and did it agan for free - plus the gave me my ICE-32 A/C treatment for free (about $80 worth). This was January and not a bit of wetness since then. It was a pain, but I understand the complexity of finding and fixing water leaks - plus they hooked me up with my a/c.

My Dakota is STILL dry... Check my earlier posts re: the issues I had. In a nutshell, though, it was: Evaporator Case seals; Weather Shields in Passenger Side door and the Third Brake Light. For me it was a hit on my credit card, but I'm too old, busted up and plain unlucky to do this stuff myself. MAGIC MECHANIC in Winter Park, FL is the go-to place in Orlando! There is a pdf manual for Dakotas that I have seen - it is pretty detailed but I don't know if it breaks down those weather shields and stripping. I DO encourage Dakota owners to check their third brake lights - on my 2005 the "gasket" is this just stupid little filmy thing, almost cellophane! My headliner is waterstained now. I peeled that crap away and resealed with that black silicone stuff. The 05 also had this big open groove across the top of the windshield. I thought something was missing but I saw other Daks with the same open grooves. One actually had its groove full of leaves, sand and twigs. I cleaned it out and filled it with a long bead of that same sealant. Some of this stuff - I don't know. Someone who makes a lot more than me designed and approved such things. Go figure!

FXP...did the "goop" fix the problem? I did see the second post 4 days after you did this and was wondering if it actually fixed the problem. I have already removed the heat shield and cleaned out the drain tube for the AC and have found that the problem is still ongoing. Would really appreciate any help with this.

Ya, THANKS DODGE! My next truck will definatley be a Ford!I was just vacuming my truck and noticed the carpet on the passenger side was a little wet. I lifted the carpet up to find a pool yes a pool of water over an inch deep.I took the the seat to find another pool in the back. Im pretty sure it the AC been hot here and have not had much rain. When I feel up the fire wall it is wet up to the AC drain. I've had the same problem in my 93 Dakota not sure it was the AC for sure though, I now have a 03 ex cab. I'm regreting buying it now. My driveway is up hill so when I park it is on a slope with the front higher. It makes sense that It could leak in if there is not a proper seal. I would say that Ive wrung out over a gallon of water so far and have a dehumidifier in there now. Going to keep an eye on it for a while and make sure it is the AC, and will try parking the other way with the drain facing down. These kind of things should not happen my truck only has 130k what a joke THANKS DODGE!

My 04 has 105K miles and leaks in sometimes when it
rains hard for a while
