There's many things that you can do but here's a quick and easy list to follow:
(1) Better Intake System: (QuickD or K&N Gen-II)
(2) Modified Throttle Body: (QuickD or Flometrics)
(3) Headers: JBA (Only ones who make them)
(4) Cat-Back System: Dynomax, Flowmaster, Gibson, Borla (or just replace the stock muffler with a Dynomax for cost savings)
(5) MSD Ignition System: Digital-6+ (or Standard MSD6)
(6) A good set of plug wires: Taylor, MSD, Jacobs, SplitFire
(7) Powerdyne Supercharger or Nitrous (or both in some cases)
That's just to start with. There are so many different ways to modify the truck, the best thing to ask you would be: How money are you willing to spend. (Seriously, it costs money to go faster.)

A couple of other options (along with the above modifications):
(1) 3.90:1 Differential (Limited Slip) Conversion...if not already installed
(2) Jet Stage-II "Chip" and 180 Degree T'Stat

Message: Seriously Bernd, do you think the 1.7's are a good idea on a normally aspirated engine? Of course along with an intake & cat back.

Balancing the engine is already done by the factory (normal practice since mid 80's). "Blueprinting" is something that not a whole lot of people actually understand what it really is. (All of the specs are on paper and to exact tolerances.) Anyone can say it...but i'd like to see the prints on the motor if it's actually been done.
On the 1.7 Rollers, you can install them on the V6 but will have to modify the valve covers by removing the oil baffles. Otherwise, the rockers will tap on the covers. Stick with the 1.6:1 Rollers and look at the other mods first.

Message: Bernd, you mentioned a limited slip conversion kit as an option. I bought my 1998 Dakota 2WD without that option and I am regretting it. Who makes a posi unit that will fit my truck? I'm having trouble locating an aftermarket kit. Thanks.

Message: I've got a '92 Dak w/ 3.9L (Magnum)and an auto tranny. I'd like to get more out of it. I'm an a limited budget, but willing to a reasonable amount. I already have a new exhaust (no cat and 1 into 2 high-flow muffler) and a K&N air filter. It's a peppy little truck, but a friend's five-speed Dak w/ the same mods leaves me in the dust. Future mods I'm thinking of slappin' on there:
1)K&N Generation II Fuel Injection Kit
2)Headers (JBA or Hedman)
3)JET Programmable Chip
4)Ignition (Not sure which one is best)
Good combo? Am I missing anything? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Message: Guys check out this page I ran into it while I was surfin the other night I think it will answer alot of your questions and they really do have looks like some good tips. The best part some are FREE!!!!! Keep in mind that the 3.9, 5.2 and 5.9 are all based on the same technology so the v-8 tips will do some good on the v-6's too.

Message: Another performance upgrade is as mentioned is a bigger throttle body. The stock throttle boby has the 2- butterflies at 1.75" Dia. A throttle body off a 318 bolts on and has a 2" opening. The Intake has to be machined or cleaned up to allow for the bigger holes. Also the year the 318 is makes a difference. I put a 93 TB on my 97 so I did not have to change any of the cables.

Message: Hey Brian on the Ball Joints, I love my Koter but the ball joints don't last. Better get it checked out, mine on the Right front failed at some 32,000 miles and they are all over the news right now on so many going bad, some have had the wheels fall off, no joke. Do a search on any search engine on dodge dakota and durango ball joints and you'll see what I mean. I must say Mother Mopar let us down on this one I just hope they issue a recall and make it right.
Sorry for the bad news but it's the truth in this case.

Message: i installed a stainless cat back system on my,3.9 l.And got better gas milage but lost some power.I like my truck and need to get more hp.out of it. as with the ball joints i`ve seen them go bad at,less than 20,000 miles.put on some moog balljoints, and moog link kits. And replace the swaybar bushings with moogs and the front end problems will go away.I also took those 225/75r15tires off,And installed some 31/10.50r15.Without raising the suspension,It really looks GOOD and handles corners like a dream
