Message: i was curious about this and i called the feds and found out that no one has ever reported the ball joint situation to them
they were very interested when i explained that the fornt ends are the same on both vehicles and that both lower and one upper ball joints failed on mine at 11,350 miles
now that is something that chrysler should really be proud of

THIS IS THE NUMBER TO CONTACT THE NHTSA
I JUST FOUND OUT THAT BOTH THE PLENUM SEALS AND INTAKE MANIFOLD HAS FAILED AND THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 12,500 MILES - AND CHRYSLER JUST TOLD ME THAT THEY ONLY BUILD THEIR VEHICLES TO LAST FOR THE 3 YRS /36,000 MILES AND THAT IS ALL
I WILL NEVER BUY R RECOMEND A CHRYSLER PRODUCT AGAIN
YOU SHOULD LET THE NHTSA KNOW OF ALL OF YOUR PROBLEMS - THEY ARE INTERESTED

First, only a moron would say that and expect someone to believe them. Second, did you believed them?

Message: ACTUALLY THAT STATEMENT CAME FROM THE CHRYSLER FACTORY CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSON - WHO YESTERDAY TOLD ME THAT STATEMENT JUST AFTER TELLING ME I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND BEFORE HE CALLED ME A NAME AND HUNG UP ON ME
I AM FINDING OUT THAT CHRYSLER IS SPENDING LOTS OF MONEY ADVERTISING THEY ARE INTERESTED IN GOOD CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND OBVIOUSLY NOT UNDERSTANDING WHAT THAT MEANS
I WOULD BE REASONABLE WITH THEM IF THEY WOULD JUST ADMIT THEY HAVE SOME DESIGN ERRORS THAT MAKE THE DAKOTA AND OTHER VEHICLES EXPENSIVE TO MAINTAIN - IN 12,000 MILES I HAVE WORN OUT ALL 4 BALL JOINTS AND THE PLENUM SEAL GASKET
NOW THAT IS THE KIND OF SERVICE HISTORY CHRYSLER SHOULD BE REAL PROUD OF - AND THE DEALERSHIP HEAD MECHANIC ADMITS THAT THE TRUCK IS SUPER CLEAN AND WELL MAINTAINED

Message: Dude, look around other parts of this website other than the complaint dept here. You will find that satisfied owners outnumber the whiners. There is a reason for this, it lies within a statement that you made which is false.
"...THE DAKOTA AND OTHER VEHICLES EXPENSIVE TO MAINTAIN..." as posted by you. They are far from expensive to maintain.
Before I ever bought a Dodge Dakota, I worked here in the service dept of a Dodge dealer as a service advisor watching what people needed to spend money on, and what the did not. The facts are DC has some great vehicles including the Dakota. The 2 vehicles I was considering purchasing at the end of my 3 yr observation of vehicles in service were the Dakota and the Jeep Cherokee. Like it or not, these vehicles have great overall repair records (in my experience, 5 yrs as a service writer at a Dodge dealership). It is unfortunate that a few people do not experience the same satisfaction that the average owner has come to expect.

Message: TO BE HONEST - UP UNTIL MY TRUCK FAILED THE STATE INSPECTION FOR BALL JOINTS AND I HAD ONLY 11,350 MILES ON MY TRUCK THAT HAS NEVER BEEN DRIVEN OFF-ROAD OR ANY THING HARD I WAS 100% SATISFIED WITH MY TRUCK - BUT SINCE THEN I FOUND OUT THAT EARLY (11,350?) BALL JOINT FAILURE IS FAR FROM UNUSUAL
AND THEN WHEN I ASKED CHRYSLER IF THERE IS A HISTORY OF THIS PROBLEM THEY FLAT OUT LIED AND TOLD ME NO - THEN 2-WEEKS LATER I HERD ABOUT THE DURANGO AND THE FEDS AND THAT THE JOINTS ARE THE SAME SO I STARTED LOOKING DURING MY SEARCH I FOUND A COMMENT ABOUT SOME ONE HAVING SUDDEN OIL CONSUMPTION AND PRE-IGNITION AND REALIZED (I HAD THE DEALER CHANGE THE OIL WHEN THEY PUT IN THE NEW BALL JOINTS AND IN LESS THAN 1000 ILES I WAS OVER 2 QTS LOW - AND WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER THEY ALSO LIED TO ME AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NO HISTORY OF THE PLEMUM SEAL FAILING IN THE 5.2 V8 - BUT WHEN I ASKED THEM WHY THERE WAS 4 TSB ON THAT PROBLEM THEY TOLD ME THEY ISSUED THE TSB'S TO HELP THE TECH'S TO FIND UNUSUAL PROBLEMS

Message: I won't try to speak for what others have told you, but I can tell you that a TSB is, contrary to popular belief (and yours obviously), NOT an indication of a common problem or repeat failure. Get than BS out of your head. Once you have some experience on the repair end of the business, you will learn a proper appreciation for a service bulletin (TSB).

Message: I was just wondering why, if there are no real serious problems with the ball joints in the Durango, they are on back order at Chrysler all over the country. They are also out of them at two major suspension parts manufacturers. You could understand if it was just at one place or another, but not if it is at all of the suppliers. If someone knows where they can be found please let us know. It's a real shame that unless many people are being killed by equipment failure no one does anything until that happens. As for the one claiming that he worked at dealership and they did not experience that many problems with the vehicles in question this may be true in your case, but please do not make light of the complaints of others seeking to keep their vehicles safe. Maybe instead of calling each other idiots we need to concentrate on getting whatever problems there are with the vehicles fixed so we can all be safe.

Message: There is often a fine line between "need to be addressed or recalled by the manufacturer" vs "common failure but still up to the vehicle owner". No one on this site is qualified (as far as I can tell) to make that determination. No one at a dealership is allowed to make that determination. What amazes me is how many vehicle owners think they are qualified to make that determination. Then, some of these same people think the dealer is responsible because they said there is no problem that they are aware of.
Here is the deal people, you (the vehicle owner) are responsible for everything that happens to your vehicle until (1) there is a law that states otherwise (2) you have a printed warranty from the manufacturer that states otherwise, or (3) there is a recall that changes the responsibility back to the manufacturer.

That is why DC is sucking big time and the Nips are running away with the market.

Message: Just wanted to ad to this first of all even Rolls Royce has its lemons. Second of all if you are not getting satisfactory service from your Chrysler rep call Mercedes. Mercedes has the #1 repeat customer reputation in the world with more buyers taking their vehicles back to dealerships. They are pushing for Chrysler to become what they are and will see to it that things will get done if it is a just complaint. Also Chrysler started the 7 year 70,000 mile powertrain and if your vehicel only has 12,000 miles on it it should be taken care of.
