Message: What should it cost to have a 44RE rebuilt due to a torque converter failure? Or should I just buy a good used on ? What does everyone think ? Is anybody selling a 44RE/46RE ?

Message: You should not have to rebuild your transmission. Just replace your torque converter. If you are wondering what stall speed is if you decide to get a new one it is the rpm that the converter really starts to grab. Similar to a centrifugal clutch on a snowmobile. Hope it helps.

Message: Brian - I assume your truck is out of warrenty. I cannot help you with the torque converter, but I would like to let everyone know that if they have problems with thier trucks while under warranty and the dealer fails to fix it properly; after the third try you truck could be covered by the lemon laws. I learned the hard way. I made many trips to the dealer to fix a sloppy transmission shift problem while the truck was still under the factory warranty. I was never fixed properly. Now with 65K on the the truck, the sloppy shift has grown to 2nd gear complety gone - slips like hell.
The result - the dealer says it will cost $2500.00 to fix it! What the @#$%^$#! Stick to your guns if you have a problem which is covered under warranty! Call the Chrysler Care number and pinch a fit! Or else....

Message: Have 95 Dakota tranny went out at 67k found out that dodge
used Teflon to coat parts so it would shift smoother . Manual
says to change fluid every 15k . That's because Teflon is
flaking off, and stoping up you pump . Then burning up tranny.
Went back with steel bands and plates, also using dextron 4
now have over 200k on truck runs fine. There Achilles heal
was tranny
