Subject: Engine Surging/High Speed Idle IP: Logged
Message: I have a problem with my 2001 Dakota 4.7L engine 5-spd transmission. PROBLEM: The idle speed races as high as 1500rpm, primarily when in 4WD. This is particularly annoying since I got the 5 speed to better control my speed while off-roading. Has anyone has this problem and found a solution. Unfortunately, my local Dodge dealer has yet to fix anything I have brought to them. Hoping someone has had and solved this problem.
Thanks

Message: It's real easy and fairly cheap. And well worth a try. On the left side of you throttle body if it's like the V8's is the throttle position sensor it's easy to replace all you need is a screw driver and be able to disconnect the plug from the old one. I got one from Schucks for 25 dollars and wow what a difference it fixed problems I had no idea would be associated with that sensor. Definitly don't let the dealer do it! $70 for the sensor and $70 for plugging in the computer to check it out. Even if it isn't exactly the same it should be very easy to replace good luck. Oh yeah that's left side as if you were sitting in the Driver's seat!
